okay so i want to learn to play guitar....because i love singing and have been doing it for many year. Now i want to start writing my own songs and trying to learn the guitar.

but anyways....
i have a guitar and a couple of my dads old guitar books.

the book i am learning out of now is teaching me with the notes (letters) is that a good way of learning.

i have also heard of learning by chords is that the same thing as the notes.

also i have played the clarinet for 3 years and know alot about music and stuff so i know that will help alot but the notes for clarinet are the same for guitar ..correct ?

oh geez i'm so pathetic i dont know anythingg.

please help me! what the easiest way to learn and how do you do that ?

thanks for all your help :]]]

I've been playing guitar for one year now. I almost always wrap my thumb around the neck, but when I need to reach far frets I put it behind neck. Few days ago I read in many web-sites that it's better to hold your thumb behind the neck, because you can reach further frets much more easy and etc. So last few days I practised playing in that position. But it is very uncomfortable to hold my thumb all the time behind neck and my wrist began to hurt. I think I put too much preasure on my thumb, but I have no idea how NOT to put preasure on it and I don't understand how to hold wrist. Fretting strings is much harder in that position. I really feel uneasy about this problem. I'm self-tought guitar player, I practise everyday a lot, and now I found that I probably held guitar not right :(

I know that they sell really cheap ones at Walmart and Target but should I really buy a guitar from here? And since I'm just beginning is there anything I should know? Tips on practicing, accessories, songs, or anything that a beginner should know are very welcomed!

Title says it all.

I grew up playing Cello.
I have tried to learn Bass and Guitar.

I have enlisted proper instructors for all endeavours. I put in an hour plus per day of practice. I give them all a good amount of time.

No real luck. I have considered piano, but I think this is going to be another lessons in failure.

It seems my problem is a) I am tonedeaf to an extent. b) I live in a townhouse, so noise is a concern.

Suggestions?

I played saxophone for almost 15 years. I'm not really tired of it, but for some reason I've developed this love for guitar music. I want opinions on whether or not I should learn guitar. I've given it a small effort in the past with not alot of success but I have new motivation. Any honest opinions will be appreciated and weighed. Thank you.

If I am doing a magic show and I can recreate a trick that has been done on TV (say by Chris Angle, David Blane, or who ever) can I be sued? If I figured it out on my own (without help from anyone involved with another magician), created the props, moves, etc. myself (again without help from anyone involved in the original production of the trick) can I be sued?

I just began teaching myself to play acoustic guitar. I can get the picking right, the single notes. I'm having a hard time playing chords.

My fingers end up accidentally touching extra strings, keeping them from ringing properly.

Does anyone have any tips to help me?
