Wow, I know how you feel.

I've been acting for years, and I NEVER get nervous when I go on stage. I'm completely ready and it's more of an adrenaline rush that stage fright.

But about a year and a half ago, I took a stong dive into the world of singing. Now I'm going into musical theatre but when it comes to singing, I still get really nervous.

Here's what I have to do.

I get where I need to be (ie, stage, behind a curtain for competitions, or backstage) and I take a minute and think. I tell myself it's all for fun, and no matter what happens, it's gonna happen. If I mess up? Oh well, professionals mess up! If I nail it! GREAT! But i'm never gonna do my best walking out there thinking about how scared I am.

So I focus on what needs to be done, whether it's singing a cut from a classical piece for Texas All-State, to going onstage for my solo in my musicals, to just singing for like Pop Show or a Cabaret type thing.

Don't focus on the people, or the fright or anything like that. Focus on your music. If you think about what you need to do during your music, think about how you want it to be portrayed, and have a good time doing it...before you know it, you're into it and not scared, and then all of a sudden it's over, you walk off stage and you're like..."OH CRAP! I JUST DID IT!"

love and peace.
Kris

I also am a singer and actress. I get really nervous too, but I will tell you one thing. Do not picture everyone in their underwear. You just have to look over the audiences heads. So then, you can't tell anyone is looking at you. You may still be nervous, but after you do it once, you will be good to go. I know it's nervewracking, but I also know that you can do it! Just give it a shot. Take it from someone like you, I know it works. Keep up the singing!

I've been singing & playing guitar for years. I used to get very nervous, now I'm only nervous.(lol) Make sure u know ur material well. Do u use a backing track, a guitar, or sing unaccompanied? Whatever, don't look at ur audience. Focus just above their heads, so it looks like ur looking at them. Concentrate on ur music, lose urself in it, and have a great time. Close ur eyes if u like - I do sometimes. The nerves will
fade away. Hope this helps.

Honestly a little bit of nerves is a good thing. You don't want to completely 'get over' the fright, just make it manageable. :-)

Sadly this comes with time and experience. The more you get up in front of people the easier it becomes. When I started out I would force myself to go to every audition and try out for every part I was capable of. I would usually get small parts - which I then *had* to sing.

It does get easier - just keep believing in yourself and seize every opportunity life gives you!

to overcome your stage fright..you need to have a mindset and a little bit of psycho on your mind that all those people are your friends. They won't make you feel bad, instead, they will cheer you all the way to the end.Since, you do received those compliments from your friends it means you are good while singing.Be calm, relax and enjoy the moment.
