I still have an old Yamaha FG-75 that I picked up in a Jewelry store for twenty five dollars many many years ago. I kept it on my back with no case at all for seven years or so, while I was hitchhiking all over the Country and singing in the streets, the bars, the open mikes, or anyplace that would have me. It's been bounced down California Street in San Fransisco, sailed on a Chinese Junk, caught in a Blizzard in Kimball Nebraska on I-80, and used as a canoe paddle in Canada till I got it away from her. (long story, no punchline ,no moral) I would say that the old girl is the most road worthy guitar I have ever owned. I have three Yamahas now, a Gibson, an Ovation Adamas, and several other guitars waiting in the corners of my room like clever cats, teasing to get picked up. That Yamaha is the one I turn to when I want to get some serious songwriting done however. We just know each other.

Absolutely! I own a Yamaha 410a and have had it for 17 years. It still sounds good (mind you it won't sound like a Taylor or Gibson) but when you pay $200-$300 for an acoustic, you won't mind bringing it to the park and the beach which you will find, is great fun!

You also mentioned you are just starting to play guitar so hey, why spend big bucks if you're not sure you're gonna like it? if you do get serious, you can always upgrade but I'll bet you find you keep the old Yamaha around for those trips to the park or to a friends BBQ.

Good luck!

It's one of the best, I have a model F G -770 S. I've been playing it for 35 years. It's a good guitar to learn on and easy to play. Other than that, a good Gibson acustic is great.

Yamaha acoustics (spelled acoustics) are great beginner and intermediate guitars. Some are more pricey that $300 and are fine instruments.

I have five acoustics--an LG-3 Gibson parlor size, a Gianninni classical, a Yamaha folk guitar, A J45/50 Gibson dreadnought, and a HD-35 Martin. I seldom play the nylon string guitars because I prefer the steel under my fingertips and the Martin above all.

My sixth guitar is a hollow-body Nashville 6120 Chet Atkins model that I used in my professional years.
