I just turned 16, and one dream I have is to take up the guitar.

Is it too late to take up the guitar at 16 and become good with it? I don't mean like a rockstar, but I want to be better than decent.

By guitar, I mean electric.

Motivation and hard work is not a problem for me, because I'm willing to practice hard to get it down.

Please answer honestly. I don't want like "You can do it!" type answers. I just want anyone who is skilled with guitar to tell me if its possible to get skilled with it if you start at 16.

How do I know which notes to start with or end with? Do the notes of the melody have to coincide with notes in the chord being played? Or if I have a melody, do I have to use chords that have some of the same notes as in the melody? Sometimes I'll write a chord progression but then I try to write a melody for it and the melody follows the chord progression exactly and then there's no point in having the chord progression if the melody is exactly the same. Sometimes I'll write a melody and try to put a chord progression over top of it but then the progression mimics the melody. I've been listening to songs recently and trying to analyze them to see how chords and melodies fit together, but there's something that great songwriters do that I just cant put my finger on. I especially admire the Beatles and Kurt Cobain as songwriters. Do you know of any good books or sites about song writing or melodies or how to put melodies together with an accompaniment?

I've been considering picking up the banjo lately, and I currently play guitar. The first music that I listened to with a lot of banjo was Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise, but there's a lot out there that's folk-y and I'd be pretty excited to play it.

Does anyone play the banjo now, and what do you think? Would it be easy to switch between instruments?

hypnotist.

ie in the same way people don't stand up at a play and shout "Romeo &Juliet are only actors!", volunteers just play along because of social conditioning and politeness to the hypnotist.

I'm wondering which songs would be good ones to play while camping. There will be about 25 people there, all between the ages of 19 and 24. I want to play some classic rock songs that everyone knows the words to (such as hotel california), but my list is short. I am prety good at guitar, but my buddy, who will also be there with his guitar, is damn good at guitar. We're trying to compile a list of songs that most of the people there will know and be able to sing along with. Any sugjestions, and I mean any, will help.

I know most of the parts on the guitar, but I'm still having a few problems. I know the strings on the neck help to produce the notes, but are there names for the sections in between the frets? I'm so confused.
Also, if you know any sites on the internet or books to read that would help. Thanks!

i work with people with intellectual disabilities. we are doing a play, part of our play is about Harry potter and we need a song to dance to.
-it can't be sexual , AT ALL
-not too fast, but not a slow song.

so far we we've decided to wear all black with capes and glowing/flashing/fluro detail.

we are going to be dancing around with 'glow in the dark' wands it must be a 'fun' song.
can you suggest a "magical" song?? right now they are going to use HOCUS POCUS - and i hate it.
