I'm wondering which songs would be good ones to play while camping. There will be about 25 people there, all between the ages of 19 and 24. I want to play some classic rock songs that everyone knows the words to (such as hotel california), but my list is short. I am prety good at guitar, but my buddy, who will also be there with his guitar, is damn good at guitar. We're trying to compile a list of songs that most of the people there will know and be able to sing along with. Any sugjestions, and I mean any, will help.

It's so tempting to be the guy in the back yelling for Freebird or Slayer. But I won't. I'd suggest getting a "fake book" which has the chords to lots of songs. There's lots of them out there, check a book store or a music store. It'll help you in the sense that you can pick a song together right there on the spot, it's got the lyrics in it, and it strips the song down to its bare bones, just a basic set of chords and rhythm. And if you play Kumbaya, may God have mercy on your soul, they shoot people for doing that around here.

80s songs make great campfire songs. Jessie's Girl, Summer of 69, Cheesy Rock Ballads like Every Rose Has It's Thorn, stuff like that.
Realistically, anything with three chords that was a hit in the last 20 years is good. Stick away from Riff based songs, hit things with chords in them.

get the best of John Denver CD collection. Annie's Song, Rocky Mountain High, and Take Me Home Country Roads are your quintessential around the fire singalong songs.
