Yeah. U got piano/keyboard? From lowest string E A D G B E. top E is E above middle C. Otherwise, electronic tuner or pitch pipes. Get a chord book, learn 2 or 3 chords - A D E are good.Practise changing between them. Ur left hand will hurt at 1st, but it will wear off. Oh, U cannot grow long pretty nails on ur left hand! Lots of songs with 2 /3 chords. Going to the Zoo is easy, so is He's Got the Whole World in His hands.
Johnny B Goode is kinda fun too. Hope this helps.

Yes go to www.stringedancer.com and a electronic tuner will come up on the right hand side of the page, it looks like a jail bar with six vertical lines just click on it with your mouse, sometimes the first page is a commercial so just go to the next page, it's great and free. Then go to Sam Ash, they have more books, and the clerks are good with helping you, they play themselves. Tell them you are beginning guitar and tell them what style that you want to play, they'll direct you to a book, tell them that you would like to have the one that has the Cd in the back, that way you can follow your progress, and play along with the Cd. Don't give up if your fingers or hands hurt that's normal, and until you get callous on your left hand your fingers are going to hurt, it can be quite frustrating when your first learning, but believe me it all comes together after a while, while your learning the preliminaries (get a cord book also) try and learn some cords so that you won't get bored and at the same time you'll be learning how to change cords smoothly and with a little practice everyday you'll see how it gets easier and easier, once you get it, but be patient, it does take time, I've had kids who swore that they will never learn this and after a couple of months they could not believe how it all started to fall in place. Learning the cords will also help with strengthening the fingers and hands. Lots of luck !!!!!!!!!

Get an automatic tuner, it's super easy to do and it's pretty accurate. The next thing you should do is buy "How to Play the Guitar" by Roger Evans. It's a great book, I taught myself to play with this book. Amazon.com will have everything you need. The tuner I have is Qwiktune, it's like ten bucks and works very well.
