hypnotist.

ie in the same way people don't stand up at a play and shout "Romeo &Juliet are only actors!", volunteers just play along because of social conditioning and politeness to the hypnotist.

I think for the most part people just pretend they're hypnotized.

We had a very well known hypnotist come to our school as a fund-raiser. Although all the kids said they were really hypnotised I heard them later say that they weren't. Hypnotism is really just for a laugh at these social gatherings.

However, hypnotism can help people get into a meditative state and get ideas into their sub-conscious. That may be why it helps smokers and alcoholics. However, these people already show that they want to stop. The hypnotism just helps them to focus.

Hypnosis is real and it does work. I have used this as a cure for a life threatening digestive disease and 1 year later am still healthy and not on any medications.

I believe 1 in 3 people are capable of being hypnotized. So it's probably a combination of reality and what you said.

I can't imagine anyone doing the chicken walk on cue just because they don't want to embarrass the hypnotist.

No, it actually works, but you have to be a willing subject. If you walk in with the attitude that you're not going to be hypnotized no matter what, you probably won't. Its a weird feeling of being almost asleep.

actually no person can be hypnotised that doesn't want to be. If you are relaxed and willing, you can be brought into a meditive state. But they cannot make you do something that you don't want to do.
