I play piano and sing, (go to a high school of the arts) and the other day my piano teacher told us in great detail how extraordinarily hard it is to play by ear. I don't know about anybody else, but I find this task quite easy. I can listen to a song on the radio and after about twenty minutes playing on the piano, trying to pick out the right notes, be able to play the first part or so of it in both hands. Is this unusual?

I have a really serious question. I want to be an actress since I was seven and right now I'm a junior in HS and when I graduate I'm planning on going to auditions and sending my resume to every agent that is out there. I'm not stuck up or anyting but everybody I know keep telling me that I'm really pretty and stuff. I'm Russian and I came from Russia 3 years ago and I learned English just for acting. Acting is the only thing that I live for. Please give me an idea what to do after I fishish HS. I take my art VERY seriously and I'm very dedicated.

Thank you all

Hello everyone, I've been playing on my old first-act Guitar for about a year and a half now and I feel it's time to bump up, I tried one of my friends guitars (It was a mid-end Ibanez, I don't remember which) and I could play a lot better so I figure my crappy First Act is holding me back.

So, what is a good intermediate-level electric guitar?
I play pretty much everything, but mainly hard rock / metal / punk. The max I can spend is 350$, and I'm looking to order it online so please include where I can get it with your answer :D

Thanks guys!

Oh and PS I play both rythm and lead guitar on-and-off so one which can fill both positions nicely would be GREAT!

I'm a sophomore, and looking to(finally...) step up from my student flute(Armstrong, btw...). I've been looking at some options and my favorites are the Pearls, because of the pinless make and the one core bar. I want to know wether I'm choosing well or not, so here are my top picks(In order from fave to least....)

For the past few years I have wanted to learn to play acoustic guitar. The problem is that I don't have the extra money to pay for lessons. Is there a program someone can recommend, as well as a "beginners" guitar to get me started? I've seen a lot of different advertisements for programs that claim to "teach" you how to play, but is it really sufficient to watch someone on a DVD and "learn" that way?
(FYI: I've never tried a string instrument before, but played trumpet, french horn and alto horn years ago! This will be strictly for hobby, as a I realize it's going to take quite a bit of practice to even make it sound decent ;-)

For example ..film and stage performance. If we are supposed to be living in a tolerant society do we get offended at the way religion is portrayed. Example the passion of the christ directed by Mel gibson....
Or the way is Islam is being portrayed in some movies.

I'm just wondering on how much of the people in this world are actually tone deaf. I've heard and read MANY times that people are "tone deaf" because of not singing on pitch or whatever. I'm thinking that this is VERY misleading because if a person can hear difference in tones they hear from outside sources (an instrument for example)--they can't possibly be tone deaf. What I'm thinking more of is just the lack of ear-training that people have that may be preventing them from singing on pitch.

What are your thoughts about this?
