We sing. If its the sound checks before a performance ,we might not sing thru every song in its entirety, but we have to sing our fullest, for warming up, for sound checks, etc.

in opera, we sing. We don't use mikes, and sound equipment is limited to whether or not there's been an extra piece of music for the orchestra ( backstage band) recorded so as to save money hiring real players.
We sing every day. If it's an 8-hr rehearsal day ( morning session, evening session) we may get in as much as 5 hours just singing. We sing as we learn our staging ( and if it's complicated staging or dancing, we have to keep doing it over and over again in order to coordinate the moves with the technical part of singing so that they both work).
When the orchestra moves into the theater with us, during the final week of reheasals, we sometimes sing softly ( we call it marking) so as not to get vocally tired. It's very rare that someone will say " I'm not singing out today". If they do, they are fighting off either fatigue or an infection.
Nobody, but NOBODY lip-syncs in opera.

Yes, we sing. Just like the lines, singing is part of the performance and must be rehearsed.

They sing. They have to test the sound equipment.
