LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of auditions, low paying day jobs, sucky landlords, GOOD contacts, LOTS of practice with singing, dancing, and acting. A resume, headshots, more than just school plays experience.

A good book that's been recommended to me is 'How to be a working actor' by Mari Lyn Henry & Lynne Rogers. Good luck you've got the same dream i do :D there are people who think it's easy as pie but trust me, it's NOT

Good for you! Confidence is key! Know that it is possible is what matters. Just like everyone says, start out small. Audition for school productions and work your way up. You have to start somewhere. You are not going to become an acting sensation overnight. It will take years of determination, hard work, and persistence. The journey of a thousand miles starts with s single step. Never give up hope. Whatever happens, good luck and God bless!

It depends where you are in life. If you have studied musical theatre for a while, and have a good voice, then go to all the open auditions in NY everywhere you can. Get your name out there. Connections are eveything.

If you are still looking at schools and colleges then try out for NYU or Michigan State... or really anywhere with a good musical theatre program.

-Good luck & Break a leg!

LOL @ Shermyne.. But you just really have to get yourself noticed. Find something you like, perfect it, and start out with family, let them tell u your strong points/weaknesses, then go to city/county functions, and work your way up.... It will probably cost some money but in the end u should be proud.

Work hard with acting. Do smaller productions and work your way up. Maybe try to find an agent if you feel like your not getting there fast enough. Also, try getting a degree in Theatre.
