First, do you know anyone who is very knowledgeable about guitars?
When you shop for an acoustic, understand that there might be a difference between instruments of the same make and model--some parts of the tone depend on whether the wood was accidentally better or worse...
Now: if you have no friend to help, you want a guitar with a warranty. The places to look--listed from most expensive to least--are:
(1) music stores--some of them sell used instruments.
(2) online music stores like http://www.musiciansfriend.com or http://www.wwbw.com (Sam Ash and others are online too)
(3) ebay--stick only to guitars that are advertised as warrantied.
If you have a friend to check out the guitar for flaws, you may also shop thru:
(4) pawn shops.
(5) thrift shops, including the online http://www.shopgoodwill.com
Now, however you're shopping--go to a good guitar store and try out different guitars. Try to find ones in your price range that sound good to you but especially that feel good under your fingers. Once you have a few that seem to meet those standards, ask your friend or the clerk to play the same tunes on each one while you turn your back--the one that sounds best when you can't see it is the one.
Of course, if you're shopping online you can't refine your decision so much--you'll just need to find a make and model that seem to always sound good to you and that you know feel right by trying some out in a music store. If you buy from the thrifts, be prepared to have some repairs made, even if it's just adjusting the string height.

I send all my students to the Guitar Center or to Sam Ash, they will want to know how much that you have to spend....and then go from there....sit and hold the guitar....try to finger it....how does it feel ??? Are the strings to hard to push down....if there too high the action may not be good....and also you have to make sure that there not too low....otherwise you'll hear buzzes....the clerks at the store will steer you in the right direction....it would be good if you could take someone with you that knows a little something about guitars and guitar playing....this way they can advise you in what to look for. Try the new Yamaha acoustic, they have a nice sound, and for the beginner I think the Yamaha is just right, cost, about $200.00, on sale even less, at the guitar center ask for a deal, their good at reducing the price.....good luck to you !!!!!!!

Since you are 14, you may as well start out with a full sized dreadnought. I wouldn't start out with an expensive guitar though. But there is nothing wrong with a quality moderately priced guitar. Such as Fender, Epiphone, or Washburn. These guitars are mostly made overseas but are still made with quality woods for good sound and tone. They just done have all of the special mother of pearl inlays or scalloped bracing. But they usually play pretty well and just in case you decide that playing the guitar wasn't for you, you won 't be out big bucks for a whim. A Wasburn D10 I feel would be a good guitar for you to start with. It is made with a spruce top and mahogany sides and back. At least it used to be. Start with a guitar with steel strings also because they wont be quite as hard on your fingers as much as nylon strings would be for starting out with. Epiphones or Fenders are also good choices and several of the lower priced ones still have good material and craftsmanship in each instrument. It would be a good idea to go to a music store and handle a few of these and price a few of them. See which one feels good in your hands and strum the strings to see how they sound. You would be surprised on what you can get for $150-$200. Later if you decide that you want to get serious then you may want to explore the more top of the line models. Then you will be more familiar with what you want in a better instrument.

Ask the guy in Guitar Center or Sam Ash etc. It depends on what you like to play, how much you're willing to spend, etc.
