Can someone suggest to me some EASY to read, but very well written books on science. I know nothing about the topic really. But would like to be more educated on it. Now I don't mean anything like " The God Delusion" or stuff like that. Please no! I'm not lookin' for agendas!

Just a good, easy to read, but well written infomative books on the history of how we got here from a scienfic stand point.

Can you?

I read the Lord of the Rings and loved it- one of my favourite books now. But then I tried to read The Silmarillion and gave up quite soon in.

My question is should I read the Children of Hurin?

Ok well I found out who plays Bella and now I am so mad. As much as I didn't like Emily Browning, she would have made a way better Bella in my opinion. Do you agree? In my opinion Kristen Stewart is a horrible Bella.

Andi walked through the hallway to her homeroom. Her eyes were glued to the floor and she clutched her journal to her chest with both arms. Her bag, weighted heavily with books, banged against her hip as she shuffled along. Her mud stained tennis shoes squeaked noisily against the white tile when she slid into her seat in the back row. The final bell rang. Someone stood behind her and pulled the long, greasy, black, hair which hung halfway down her back in a tangled web.

What do you expect to happen next?

Just curious as to what interests people...
For a MAIN character do you prefer a naive person who must learn from their mistakes vs. a wise person?

For fantasy stories do you prefer wand waving children kind of magic (like Harry Potter)or more serious 'realistic' magic like Wiccan and Pagan?

Do you like to see a happy ending, a sad ending, or a little of both?

Well, thanks in advance for satisfying my curiousity.

short version:

semi-poor woman dreams of luxeries and being rich and sh!t. ok so her husband gets her an invitation to a ball thing but she has no jewlerly to wear. so she borrows something from her rich freind. at the ball she has a great time..shes really popular and all that she wanted but she loses the necklace. the couple works their buts of to buy and new one and finally do. THe freind never finds out. OK so now its 10 years later and they are all old and ugly from working and this woman sees her freind and tells her what really happened. So the freind tells her that she never noticed and that her neckalace was fake and worth like 10 times less than the one they bought. so basicly the worked their a$$es off for nothing..

I've read Phillipa Gregory's books The Other Boleyn Girl and The Boleyn Inheritance, as well as the Constant Princess. I loooove historical fiction, but call me sexist I'm not interested in guy stories. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm about to hit the book store! Thanks!

It could be your nearest and dearest, or your newest love in the first flush of the beginning of days, and you decide to do something different and sweet, and read a book to them in quiet intimacy.

What book would you choose?

(My picks have included
Jeanette Winterson - Written on the Body,
Doris Lessing - Briefing for a Descent into Hell
Milan Kundera's Laughable Loves)

I've read quite a number of books, some of which have been made into movies. Movies that do not live up to the expectations, not of the reader, but of the book.

It is not the reader that we should be cocerned about, but the book.

The life that the book holds, has been put into a 9mm film that does not do the book justice, rendering it a mediocre attempt at bringing the work to life. Where does all the grace and glory that was in the book go, when it's made into a movie?

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor;
Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to follow;
From my books surcease of sorrow-sorrow for the lost Lenore-
For the rare and radiant madien whom the angels name Lenore-
Nameless here and evermore

thanks for the help
