Shakespeare, he wrote the thing.

Almost everyone in the story played some role in their deaths. Shakespeare is, of course, the main culprit.
Besides that, the fact that the families were feuding and therefore did not have time to teach their children how to behave is a flaw. Romeo was stupid for drinking poison and Juliet was stupid for killing herself. Clearly they didn't communicate well enough. The whole issue could have been prevented by good patience, communication skills, and common sense.

Loads of questions asking this have been previously posted. Just type in "blame romeo juliet death" in the search for questions box. There's plenty of answers to choose from. Hope this helps.

Hey, I wrote an A+ paper about this not long ago. College level mind you :P *show off*

Fate/God

The whole point of the play is that Romeo and Juliet are fated to die in order to cleanse Verona. The prologue states outright. "Star crossed lovers" it calls them. There was nothing they could do to prevent this. Friar Lawrence helps a lot. He knows he is sacrificing the two but does it anyway because he sees it is God's will. Romeo and Juliet helped too. They rushed into marriage because of their hormones really (sorry to break the romance but it's all about sex). Romeo also states in Act 1 as they are heading off to the Capulet party that he gives himself over to "He who hath steerage" . They both willingly give themselves over to their fate instead of fighting it the way Greek tragic heroes would have done.

Personally, I have never like that tradgedy. I think it is rather infuryating. I think that it is everyone in the plot has something to do with it. I think that it is mostly the Monteages and the Capulets that caused the problem, because they were so against each other that Romeo and Juliet had to make that grand escape plan. Methinks Romeo and Juliet are responsible because they were the ones who killed themselves, remember?

Hope this helped!

They were pretty much all to blame in someway, everyone got involved in their relationship. Maybe the nurse was at fault mostly because she was the grown up and should have sorted out Juliet instead of passed on her messages or maybe the friar, what was he doing marrying them in the first place, knowing that they couldnt be together.
They were just too young.

If this is a home work question, then try turning it around. The play is a tragedy, which means an awful sequence of events, but with no-one to blame. You can mention all the contributing factors such as family, and people not passing messages quickly enough etc, but ultimately, it is by definition, a tragedy.

The two families. If they hadn't been feuding, Romeo and Juliet could have just fallen in love and been happy. Their families unwillingness to forgive each other lead to their deaths.

as the play is supposedly taken from a true story and adapted by Shakespeare, they only have them self's to blame, no one made them kill them self's, but it could of be prevented if the Montague's and Capulet's made up, or Friar Lawrence had got the message to Romeo on time.

I'd say their families because if they weren't fighting Romeo & Juliet could've lived happily ever after. They wouldn't have had to go to such desperate measures to be together.

Shakespeare. He could have portrayed them as a bit more popular and not necessarily one boyfriend, one girlfriend only type of teenagers.
So the play would go "Fine, you dont want him? , I will go out with so and so." Then no one would have died and the ending would be dealing with them meeting each other after 3 yrs have passed and they would say to each other......
"I am sure glad I never married you, My mom and dad was right. You are a loser" or something like that. More realistic and true to life. The end.
