It makes me sad that anyone would abandon the books because of the announcement that Dumbledore is/was gay.
It makes me wonder how those people would react if a loved one made that announcement.
The books have always been about teaching love and acceptance of others, rather than prejudice and hatred.
Most people who have a friend or loved one who is openly gay are more accepting of homosexuality.
I think J.K. Rowling wanted us to know that Dumbledore is gay because he is a beloved character and his sexuality is just one part of who he is. It didn't stop him from being a good teacher, mentor, protector, leader, or example to his students.
As for the time he spent alone with Harry, all I can say is that there is a vast difference between being homosexual and being a pedophile.

Doesn't change the story for me at all, it was just a marketing ploy. It's totally irrelevant to the story and doesn't hold any correlations to who Dumbledore was, and with Dumbledore being dead, unless there are plans to bring him back to life, then I don't feel like we really honestly needed this bit of information. In my opinion it was just a publicity stunt that gained slight notoriety but was not really something that grabbed too much attention or did much good.

It just add to his development. You know homsexuals are people too . Now if only more stiraght people like me and others out who hold this view , have the sma opionp that homsexuals are poepple too besides us and homsexuals. How someone wonder and inquire if he's gay anwyway?

Yea I don't really give a crap. I think JK is just trying to show kids that being gay is ok. Personally, while reading HP & the Deathy Hallows, I didn't pick-up at all that he was in love with Grindlewald. When I read it again, I'm going to see if she put in any hints that I overlooked.

Doesn't bother me at all, I mean, after all, I'm gay. I think JK did it just a publicity stunt. Perhaps even to get out of writing a new book, thinking parents won't allow their kids to watch a movie where one of the main characters is gay.

No! I think it's awesome, even if it is irrelevant to the plot.
Some people say that it's bad to expose children to it, but i think that if they hear about Dumbledore, a figure that they probably respect in the book, they will be more likely to be accepting of homosexuality.
It's actually quite funny how she talks about it, if you look up the interview.

i would have never guessed it form any of the books, but she is the author, so she'd know. Its her book she can say whatever she wants. No big deal.

I agree, it's just more information, doesn't change the plot or anything at all, though it's fun to learn extra facts about the characters :)

I thought it explained some things regarding how Dumbledore would act and stuff but otherwise I thought it was irrelevant.

As you said........Dumbldore's sexual preferences are totally irrelevant with regard to the Potter series in total.
Since we're talking about a fictional character, and this revelation is much ado about nothing.......I think it was the authors intent just to put a last "teaspoon" of drama (publicity) in what has become a discontinued series.
