So I've hit a few inevitable bumps in my writing, and I'd mean a whole lot if someone could help me out on the following points:

1. The novel takes place in a different world, and as such has different races, fauna, etc. How would I describe the appearance one of these without it boring the reader?

2. My main character has had a rather rueful past, and it just sounds like a sob story when I put it on paper. How would I avoid that, but still keep all of the original information?

3. I don't actually have complete plot yet. Any suggestions on where I could look to get ideas?

Any answers to these questions would be very greatly appreciated!

Some of the things I remember about the book, or series: It was set around the turn of the century (1900). The main character was very smart and had many schemes. One was he charged a nickel for people to come into his house and see the town's first toilet. Another time he made a key using a soap imprint.

I was probably around 10 when I read the books and my son is about that age and I'd like to find the books again for him to read.

I believe that the banning of books is wrong on a lot of levels. Books promote imagination and creativity, and how can you ban something that encourages mental strengthening?

I am a teenager, so you would think I could care less in the world of writing. Strike one. I am not simply interested in mindless video games, I also read a considerable amount of material. And, personally, the more controversial the material, the more I am inclined to read it. I searched all through the stores for Farenhiet 451, however I simply gave up because I could find it nowhere. Why? Because it had been banned! I can understand placing restrictions on obscene and pornographic material, but Farenheit 451? They've just banned a book, that is about banning books! How conservative can you possibly get?

A full novel
A novella
and a short story

I know that a full novel is 80,000 words +, but what is the minimum word length of a novella, or the maximum word length of a short story before it is considered a novella? I need clarification!!

This all started with a conversation about people having time on their hands.

Do people just sit and watch the TV, or do they read ?

I reckon I've read about 40+ so far. Goes some way to prove there's not that much on the TV if nothing else I suppose !!

She has outgrown kids' books, but since I don't read mysteries, I need to know some good authors or series of books. I don't want any 'mature' themes in them, so if you know of books we should avoid, please let us know that, too!

I'm talking about the book not the movie. Anyway, has anyone read the unabridged version of it? I came across it in a library one day and got completely hooked. BTW - my attention span is non-existent, I rarely ever even read books. I had read about 400 pages, and then I found out I was reading the abridged version. I got pissed off and stopped reading it! I really want to read the unabridged version, the only thing that is stopping me is the fact that it is over 1300 pages. To those of you that have read the unabridged version - do you think it was worth it? Or am I better off sticking with the abridged?

I had an idea for somthing to write but I wanted to know if it was too cliche. I know I've read a few books with similar plots but I just wanted to know what you thought-

There are two neiboring kingdoms seperated by a forest.
Hundreds of years ago the two kings had a fight. As the years passed by their sons took to the throne. None ever forgave the other.
years on one boy, Aimery James Amos (Aimery Amos) wants to know why he isn't allowed through the forest.
One night on the eve of the kings birthday he crosses through as a dare.
In the other kingdom he meets the kings daughter. She thinks he is form her kingdom. He likes her immediately they share a kiss adn then he has to leave.
The king tries to prevent hteir relationship but in the end aimery and the king end up friends. Aimery's kingdom launches war over the other adn aimery fight alongside the king(his friend one) then aimery marries the princess and become king.
Does anyone have ideas for the princess's name?
