Describe the qualities of personality or character that makes Sherlock Holmes the successful detective he is. Then explain what you feel it would take to defeat him.

He notices everything, plays close attention to detail.

To beat him you'd have to be one step ahead or be even more careful in noticing things then him.

I have read it.

Sherlock Holmes uses deductive reasoning and analysis. He has excellent powers of observation and an ability to remember facts that might seem inconsequential to most of us.

He is also greatly helped by his ability to think and reason privately, which allows those guilty to be entrapped while not knowing he is on their trail.

In the red-headed league a man is drawn into a scheme which allows him to abet a crime while not knowing the crime is taking place under his nose. The man is a bit dull, but Holmes gets enough information out of him to discover what is going on and solve the crime.

One of Conal Doyle's more interesting plot lines.

He is a great detective because he always has his magnify glass and examines details so small that others will miss, to defeat him steal this glass.
