There are so many books you can read. Have you read The Lord of the Ring series by J.R.R. Tolkien and The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis? If not, you should.

How about some classics like Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte; Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte; Dracula by Bram Stoker; The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde; The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux; Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson; or Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. More classics you might enjoy include Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier; The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm (very dark); Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell; Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy; and A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

If you want a page-turning thriller with supernatural elements, read House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker or The Oath by Frank Peretti. They are both excellent and very creepy. Frank Peretti also has two books in the Veritas Project series: Hangman's Curse and Nightmare Academy.

If you like mysteries, read Catherine Coulter's FBI series that starts with The Cove. It's excellent. Agatha Christie's mysteries are always great, too. Ten Little Indians (otherwise known as And Then There Were None) is one of her better ones. Mary Higgins Clark's mysteries are really enjoyable...like All Around the Town or While My Pretty One Sleeps. If you enjoy romantic suspense read anything by Phyllis A. Whitney, Mary Stewart or Victoria Holt. They are each very good. For a great special ops type thriller, read Vince Flynn's books starting with Term Limits. You really can't put them down!

Have you read any works of Stephen King or Dean Koontz? They both have a lot of excellent books that are also rather scary.

I haven't read them, but I keep hearing good things about the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer; The Inheritance trilogy by Christopher Paolini (the third is not out) and the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson.

If you want a really different series, read Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels. There are five in the series so far and the first is called The Eyre Affair. These books are so witty and fun and completely unlike any novels I've read before! Great. Here's a part of Amazon's description:
"Imagine this. Great Britain in 1985 is close to being a police state. The Crimean War has dragged on for more than 130 years and Wales is self-governing. The only recognizable thing about this England is her citizens' enduring love of literature. And the Third Most Wanted criminal, Acheron Hades, is stealing characters from England's cherished literary heritage and holding them for ransom."

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.

I hope this helps.

if you've read Northern Lights i'd recommend The other 2 books in the trilogy - The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.
