I am reading "I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith and I'm really enjoying it. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any other books with a kind of similar style? I like mostly fiction or historical fiction so any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Christophers Moore's lamb of god, the gospel according to Biff, jesus's childhood pal?

I am about half way through the audiobook version read by Fisher Stevens and it is completely hilarious. I was on the subway home the other night and everyone around me must have thought I was nuts. It is a laugh out loud sort of book.

I am sure christians will be put off by the name but it in no way attacks religion ( I am sure the fundies still won't like it as they have no sense of humor). If you have not read it is is worth picking up the book, but Fisher Stevens does such a good job I think it would be worth it to "find" the audiobook online.

Cheers,enjoy

I'm writing a novel and I need to decide what the main character's name will be. She is 18, Russian, and a dancer (yeah I know stereotypical but believe me the story is not in the least stereotypical). I've narrowed it down to two. Here are the names and their meanings (and yes they are spelled correctly):

Jelena - Shining Light

or

Nika - Born on Sunday

Personally, I like Nika because I've never heard it used in a novel before, but what do you all think?

Thanks and God Bless!!!

Can anyone suggest a good vampire novel for a 15 year old who reads young adult and teenage age books? Already read the ones in the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. Thanks

Specifically:

(1) Which fictional book has inspired you the most?
(2) If you were stuck on a desert island, which fictional book would you take with you?
(3) Which book did you enjoy reading the most (i.e. most entertaining, most fun).

All three are not necessarily the same book - I know for me they're different answers! What are your answers?

P.S. I know many of you would answer the Bible or another relious or non-fictional book, but I'm looking specifically for fiction.

I am a big fan of Laurell K. Hamilton, Lynn Viehl, J.R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon and many others. I am interested in finding a book with the dark fantasy set in the future. I am also a writer and I want to compare ideas. I realize that the authors I mentioned are women, but I am not bias so please list male authors and I don't care if the genre is romance, sci-fi, fantasy etc.

The novels series is nothing but liberal propoganda and I think we should stop kids from reading them.

Groups such as the John Birch Society, whose articles are referred to by Rowling's Christianity-based opponents, have criticised her for a supposed liberal/socialist bent and for her admiration for "unrepentant socialist and death-fetishist extraordinaire" Jessica Mitford, who has been her heroine since the age of 14. "The Potter books read in places like diatribes against the modern middle class, especially whenever Harry confronts his ludicrously dysfunctional and downright abusive adopted family, the Dursleys."

Also, Rowling's portrayal of the bureaucratized Ministry of Magic and the oppressive measures taken by the ministry in the later books (like making attendance at Hogwarts School compulsory and the "registration of mudbloods" with the Ministry) is an allegory criticizing the state and goverment.

I will not let commies to poison the minds of our kids. Ban the Potter book!

I am looking for this book that I read in middle school. A girl who is noble sees her father killed one day and runs away. She hides as a choir boy and adventures ensue as her father's killers try to find her. That's about it, I think. Does anyone know what it's called?

I know this is kind of a wierd question, but in the 7th book, Voldemort holds Ollivander hostage for months, and it doesn't seem to have any permanent effect on him.

Please please do not say this is the last one .Its been said before to increase sales like Rocky 1 then 2 then 3 so on.The author herself had admitted , before the sale of last book, there would probably be another , this time for charity. ( Thats how I knew Harry would not be killed this time !)The question is not will there be one but when?( Harry is older so he can still have older adventures.!

I loved reading the Harry Potter series, but now that its over, I am trying to end my grief by picking up another wonderfully imaginitive, painfully addicting novel.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Doesn't neccessarily have to be fantasy, but a really good read!!

So, I had a bet going on with a friend of mine. I said, "most people have read Moby Dick" she said I was wrong -

So I asked quite a few people where this line came from, "Call me Ishmeal" - and no one could tell me.

So, I want to know, how many of you read Moby Dick, yes or no? If yes, tell me what you liked or disliked about it?

Thanks!
