The novels series is nothing but liberal propoganda and I think we should stop kids from reading them.

Groups such as the John Birch Society, whose articles are referred to by Rowling's Christianity-based opponents, have criticised her for a supposed liberal/socialist bent and for her admiration for "unrepentant socialist and death-fetishist extraordinaire" Jessica Mitford, who has been her heroine since the age of 14. "The Potter books read in places like diatribes against the modern middle class, especially whenever Harry confronts his ludicrously dysfunctional and downright abusive adopted family, the Dursleys."

Also, Rowling's portrayal of the bureaucratized Ministry of Magic and the oppressive measures taken by the ministry in the later books (like making attendance at Hogwarts School compulsory and the "registration of mudbloods" with the Ministry) is an allegory criticizing the state and goverment.

I will not let commies to poison the minds of our kids. Ban the Potter book!

Hey, if 375 million copies of it sold then I guess in your opinion that would mean millions of poisoined minds. How are you gonna get those poisoned minds back to normal? If you want to ban a book ban it before it sells 375 million copies.

Umm...Excuse me? Could you say that again in language the children who will be reading this book can understand? A 10-year-old kid is *not* going to understand all of that from reading a book about a boy who goes through growing up. And, when you look at the basics, that's pretty much what Harry Potter is about. I don't see where J.K. Rowling's personal likes and dislikes make much of a difference. And, I would like to point out, the bureaucratized Ministry of Magic you mention that makes muggle-borns register as so or which *makes* young witches and wizards attend Hogwarts is only *after* Voldemort took over. Have you even read the books? Or have you just been told about them by someone who may have left out some rather important details? If you don't like the book, like *everyone* else has said, just don't read them. These kinds of posts really won't do anybody and good whatsoever, so, really, just get a blog and put all this on it, because then you won't have to read all the responses about how you're wrong or that you don't know what you're talking about or that you're stupid, because a lot of people on Y!A will say that.

Something needs to be said about your question. First of all, does anyone realize that Harry Potter is a fictonal character, and the story is fictional?! There are sooo many other fictional books that have much more offensive and critical views that are of the author, HArry potter and J.k. Rowling really dont possess any critical or offensive views. Its a childrens book to make them read something completely out of the ordinary and out of this world. No matter how "real" or "real occurances" are displayed in the Harry Potter books, they are not real, and all of the groups and societies that believe that Jk Rowling is trying to warp children's minds and change the world with strong views on critical matters obviously have nothing better to do and need to critize a true amazing author are her or his work.

I am in no way dissing you and your question. But just think before you type and act! "Ban the Potter book!" is that really what you feel? Its a very sad remark becuase its a fictional book and you should just not care about it if you have a problem about it and keep your mouth shut. Dont get upset over a fictional book and take it to heart. The book is , once again, fake! It will do nothing to change the world and cause an outbrake of people, its a children's book that is beautifully written. There's not much more I can say but, everyone's obviously got a differnt view on the book and I think its terrible how others are soo against it when its all fake. Go and read the life of adolf hittler the biography and see how you like the views displayed in that book or something else of that sort where someone hates a gropuof people for reasons that shouldnt matter. Youneed to spend your time more reasonably. Get over it , its a fake book!

Your a real looser and need to get a life, get over yourself and find something else to spend your time wisley, your one posted comment on yahoo answers is not going to change the world and the way that people think, go homw and stay off of this site!

The book won't "poison the minds of our kids". It's just an entertaining book that represents an amazing world that every kid has dreamed about at least once in their childhood. One where they can use magic and see magical creatures. Nothing corrupting will come Harry Potter and actually a lot of people say that the series sparked their interest in reading. Take that away and you'll be named the stupidest person in the world. I mean really, "Ban the Potter book"??? You must be out of your mind.

Are you scared that if you let the kids read it, they'll turn away from what you want them to believe?
If so, what does that tell you about how believable your beliefs are, and what does it tell you about how well you've raised your children?

If you've raised your children well, they should be able to read a book on Satanism and not be affected. But apparently, since you think they shouldn't even read Harry Potter, you didn't raise your kids well enough, did you?

Harry Potter is the good guy in the book- he fights off an evil guy. Harry fights an evil guy who killed his parents- Voldemort. Why is Harry, the person who's trying to end evil, an evil person?

And who cares if the Ministry of Magic is supposedly something criticizing state and government? One, it's called freedom of speech. Two, EVERYONE I've EVER known who's read Harry Potter has NOT been affected by it like that. It didn't change their religion, and it didn't make them hate the government. To me, it was a fictional read. Just like it was to everyone else I've talked to.
A kid at my school who knows the bible inside and out, is SUPERSUPERSUPER religious [( I swear, you haven't met a TRUE Christian until you've met this kid... )] says that his favorite fictional book is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Also, how can you say your beliefs are true if you don't give the other ones a chance, or let the kids know about other things? By blinding people from all information, you force them to only learn one thing. And if they only learn one thing, they follow it blindly. I know that if my parents kept me from reading things like that, I'd want to read them MORE and I would want to learn MORE about other thigns they dont want me to know about.

I'm so sorry the rest of the world can't be a close-minded under-educated idiot with ridiculous morals and false ideas of entertainment like you.
Get over it.

well, i have no idea where you are coming from. harry potter is about love and sacrifice, families and friendships. there is nothing "left wing" about it, and there is no propaganda in those books. your examples of making attendance at Hogwarts mandatory and registering the mudbloods only happened when Voldemort come to power in the last book. it was the EVIL voldemort that forced those things to happen. harry fought against it by going into hiding and trying to destroy all those horcruxes (thus being able to destroy voldemort).
from the looks of it you have never read a single one of the books. if you did you would realize (as many who originally questioned the books have) that they do not pose much harm to our children. i will admit that they are not for the very young, because there is violence and death (many in the form of SACRIFICE (love)). but all in all they are wonderful stories that i view as extremely Christian.
i would like to know where the hell you got Communism from, really you sound like an a dunce

Ummm...OK. I don't think the books are really liberal propaganda (by the way, you spelled "propoganda" wrong it's the way I spelled it over there). I mean you can make connections like that with any book, that doesn't mean that that was the intended meaning, or that anyone who wasn't looking for that meaning would see it. So, yeah, I don't think it's really necessary to ban the books, and even if they were liberal propaganda, that still doesn't mean they ought to be banned, that's restricting freedom of speech (although technically she's British anyway) just don't let your kids read them. Have a nice day. :)

You are so stupid, I am sorry. I love harry potter and I am a kid and its not propoganda. It's brilliance. If you don't like harry potter, you don't have to read it. We don't need people like you who don't like it. You shouldn't care about other people and other kids and if they want to read it you don't have to stick your butt in. I am sorry but harry potter is my life and we will certainly not ban it. If you are going to insult harry potter like that, you're going to get a lot of enemies. I think you should read harry potter before you make your decisions. It's fiction, what would you expect? I would liek to see you try to take her on. And for your information, in the last book Dudley Dursley and harry potter are like friends. Dudley comes clean with harry. And in the book, teh Ministry of Magic is not on Harry's side. They're bad. And the term "mudblood" is not supposed to be a good term. harry potter is against that word.
You need to read harry potter before you start giving a bunch of quotes and wanting to ban it. You're not going to ban harry potter. Harry potter is a lot more famous than you are.

Wow...I'm pretty sure that you're out of your mind if you think a middle-school aged or younger child is going to pick up those themes in the Harry Potter books.

Take your %. Communist or Fascist, opposite ends of the spectrum. the two recommend burning books. Which do you like? probable Fascist considering which you state your enemy is Communist. In usa we believe in a loose press. which ability in case you do no longer basically like the e book than you do no longer could examine it. no person is twisting all of us's arm to purchase or examine the Harry Potter series. It has easily accomplished greater solid than harm in that it incredibly is organic delusion, infants can tell the version, and that it has inspired greater infants to examine than something in recent many years. it incredibly is FICTION. FICTION ability no longer genuine. in simple terms thoughts, this is all. Like Sci-Fi or maybe classics like Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" or Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". those are fiction. in simple terms examine and luxuriate in. that's what they're for no longer something. To examine (pardon the pun) greater into them that what's there is ridiculous. With that I wish the fleas of one thousand camels to infest your arm pits.
