I understand fully that a first novel 9 out of ten times sinks, but that is just how life is within the book world; everyone has to start at the bottom (even if you're lucky at first) and this is done by a first novel in my case - my problem however is that if the world needs another novel, then it must be different; i'm not talking about that different novel that will change the world as that's for the future, i'm talking about how to start of a possible career or whatever the outcome with a first novel without it being the same normal novel that friends shrug and adults laugh and say 'Oh look, another desperate hopeful trying to climb the ladder - it's okay though, he'll slip in a minute!'.

What is needed from the eyes of you, the real authours, the real critiques and other non-desperate but passionate authors-to-be to make a first novel different - not to just sell because that's pathetic, to sell and to open the eyes of the reader - I want the speech to be 'Wow, this is unreal!'

I haven't seen the movie yet, of course- but I already think that the directors have taken ALOT of liberty in creating this film. It looks nothing like the book. It seems like the movie companies are trying to make a buck off of fantasy while it's a hot topic. I love the book, but, I'm doubting the movie. I could be wrong.

I am writing a report on the subject "Bestsellers - do they have any literary quality?". So any help on this topic would be great. If you know any good website, that would be great too.

I need a name for a monk. He's gonna be a hero, serious, concerned about war and doesn't like fighting, tall and fit, trained to fight but doesn't like violence. It's a fantasy story so it needs to be kind of old sounding nothing new or real short (i.e. even, john, rick, timmonthy, none of those) Any name at all would be a real help. If you want to add a last name you can but I can make one up. I have a ton I just can't decide so I need some more examples.

I am considering starting a book club, either through my church or neighborhood and I would like to mainly attract young women. Do you really adore chick lit? Most of it I hate, but of course that is geared to the younger crowd.

I read an article in a women's magazine a couple of months ago, but I don't remember which magazine it was - could've been Elle, Vanity Fair, or any other one.

The book is a non-fiction, autobiographical account written by an immigrant woman living in Paris. I'm not sure if she's Morroccan or Lebanese or something like that. It talks about the way these people are ostracized in their own country etc. I think the French title had something like "Lune" or "Nuit" in it.

Has anyone read this book or this review? Or something that sounds vaguely familiar? Any information would be great!

I once read a poem in my British Lit class, and the author said, basically, that death isn't so horrible because you get to join all the great men before you. Can anyone tell me what this poem is called an who is the author? Thanks!

28 year old female here. I'm looking for some books to read I guess along the lines of "chick lit", but I'm definitely not big on Sex in The City type stories. Looking for books about intelligent females and their ups and downs. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!

The boy is snowed in all winter. Learns to be self reliant. Not at all sure of the author's name, although I think it started with a K and is 2-3 syllables long. Author also wrote several other juvenile boy's books.
