I am considering starting a book club, either through my church or neighborhood and I would like to mainly attract young women. Do you really adore chick lit? Most of it I hate, but of course that is geared to the younger crowd.

I tend to lean toward the sci fi/fantasy stuff. I like mysteries and thrillers as well, stuff that makes me think or puts me on the edge of my seat. I don't read a lot of the romance stuff, but some of it is really good. I can't say that any genre of fiction is better than another because I've read something good in all of them. If you start your book club, don't limit to one genre, otherwise you'll miss out on so many wonderful books. And truly, I wouldn't want to limit my group (if this were me) to just a certain age range, because again, you'd be missing out on sooooo much. Just my two cents.

What do you mean my chick lit? I like Thrillers, especially by Catherine Coulter. Jodi Picoult is a great novelist and a lot of her books come with questions in the back for book clubs. I'm not quite sure how to classify her, but her books cover a lot of differerent issues.

I'd say fantasy, though I will read nearly any genre.

Some chick-lit is quite fun, while some is trite and boring. However, I have found that this statement applies to all genres.

Cathy Kelly writes romantic fiction.
Jodi Piccoult is another excellent author but I'm not sure what her genre would fall under. Her books all end up in a courtroom battle. These are my 2 favorite authors.

Fiction? I do like a good mystery but I have to admit ever since I was in school I couldn't get enough Tolkien. But generally, I don't care much for fantasy writing. So, I guess it would have to be mysteries.

I prefer science fiction, fantasy, adventure, and religion. I think they are the most thought provoking and chick lit boars me to tears.
