I once heard a quote from the Lord of the Rings novel saying "I Love not the warrior for his courage, the arrow for its straightness, nor the sword for its swiftness, what I do love it that which they defend" now I know that this is not completely correct and that is the reason for this post I would like to find out the correct quote and the character that said it

After watching the movies "A Walk to Remember" and "The Notebook"- I really want to start reading his books! I've recently read "A Walk to Remember" and I'm working on "The Notebook" now (just to compare the movies to the books). What should I read next? Any personal favorites? Thanks!

I thought that The Glorious Appearing was the last book in the oringinal series, but now that I've seen that Kingdom Come is going to be released this year, I was wondering if its part of the originals or of its part of the new series "Before They Were Left Behind."

What would you write? Articles, stories, novels, blogs?
Would you go under a pen name?

I do not mean to boast, but everyone tells me I am a fantastic writer.
I want to publish a book and article that I have already written, but I do not wish for fame. People judging you every five seconds...yuck.

Perhaps I could go under a pen name? To me, acronyms sound like the best idea. But those are solvable.

No stupid pen names such as Holly Day.

Although I would enjoy some credit, I don't want anyone to know.

Also, does anyone have any creative plot ideas? Tips for a girl who wants to be a journalist? Tips on how to write articles?

Thank you in advance for all your help and detailed, encouraging, helpful answers. (hint hint)

Happy New Year!

The story is futuristic in a society made up of two groups of peoples, one that live above the ground and one that lives below the ground. The word "mogwai" keeps popping into my mind, but not the little creatures from 'Gremlins"...I vaguely remember the below-ground dwellers revolting and attacking the above ground folks. I thought it was "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, but thats not the correct book. Help anyone?

I can't find a website or anything that tells me what the content of books are. I can get reviews but I need to know what the content is so that I can decide whether or not to let my daughter read them. Here's what she has brought home

The Smoke Thief by Shana Abe
Kitty goes to Washington by Carrie Vaughn
Dead Man Rising by Lilith Saintcrow
Working for the Devil Lilith Saintcrow ( I'm sure this one is probably bad)

I don't want to read too much of them because I want them to stay in new condition so I can return them.
The woman in the store actually recommended them to her. My first clue that they may be bad was when I read the inside cover of The Dark One by Ronda Thompson. It was pretty bad. I don't know why anyone would recommend this crap to a 14 year old! Any help will be appreciated.

Even though I was breathlessly hooked by the first book in Gabaldon's time-travel series, I find myself scanning the pages of her extremely long sequels, searching for the plot elements and skipping some of the dialogue.

I do enjoy the relationships between the characters, and I admire the author's incorporation of research into her plots. The plot developments keep me reading to find out what will happen to these folks.

But--Does anybody else find some of these l-o-n-g novels to be a bit wordy? I'd like the books even more if they were about half as long.

Is this just me, or does anybody else have this reaction?

I'm writing a story about werewolves and blah so as u can imagine therre's a LOT of information i want to get out to the reader so they understand customs and the main character (and her fam's) life style.

How can i do that...like merge it with the story and not make it sound like an info-mercial/essay?

Oh and please don't say my idea is stupid....

i don't plan on getting it published so you don't need to dis it

this is not a racist question, but one dealing with the revolution of racist ideas expressed by n.g during the 1970's. it is quite profound in it's meaning for those still holding onto racist ideals. by the way, Nikki Giovanni is black.

I'm not very good at understanding the symbolism stuff in books. In the first chapter there's a rosebush outside of the prison. Does anyone know what it symbolizes? Thanks.
