Vande Mataram (Devanagari: वन्दे मातरम् Vande Mātaram, Bengali: বন্দে মাতরম Bônde Matorom) is the national song of India, distinct from the national anthem of India "Jana Gana Mana". The song was composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in a mixture of Bengali and Sanskrit.

His name I only saw quoted as Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. He wrote "Anandamatha" whence the song text was taken. There are several tunes for Vande Mataram, the most recent one composed by Ravi Shankar.

"Vande Mataram" is written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyaya. This song is a part of his novel "Anand Math". There was an excellent old movie also based on the book.

Chatterjee is anglecized version of the surname Chattopadhya. Like Mukherjee for Mukhopadhya, Bannerjee for Bandhopahdya etc
