The short story is about a man who likes to buy exotic pets and one day obtains some kind of alien insect. He puts them in a terrarium with sand and they form, i think, four different little tribes. as he cares for them and such they grow, they war with each other, etc. He has some friends over one day and has the insects face a new threat, i think it was either a very large insect or a small animal. the insects win, however, iirc, his friends are very off put with this display of violence. Eventualy they get bigger and bigger, and at some point he attacks them, and they regard him as an evil god. Finaly, the insects escape from his house and move into the outside world, where they eventual capture and possibly kill him.

The short story was found inside a book of short stories with an exotic green alien female, sitting profile to the reader.

What strange tears.
These empty hopes, a still hand.
Nothing, nothing and tears.
The moon is dark. A leaf falls.
Coolness sweeps the night air,
And the stars;
The stars are so far away.
You are somewhere,
Somewhere.
Perhaps not even in this world.
You who used to be
My entirety, my whole.
Now just the stars,
The skeletal trees,
The moon, bleeding a silent sketch,
Into the endless sky.

Thanks guys, any comments appreciated :)

I believe that Stephen was pushed into becoming an artist because he was not accepted by his family, friends, or girls. and finally when he had friends because of who he was it was when he was in college where he already proclaimed he was going to become an artist. Agree...Disagree??

I'm doing a biographical sketch of Oscar Wilde, and one thing that I must include is what kind of writing style he used- traits, influence, and how it differed from others. I've searched and searched and I can't seem to find anything that tells of his writing style.

Can someone please help & post the links that you found for me? Thanks in advance!

Hamlet can begin and end without Ophelia ever entering the play. So she is a thematic device, a means for Shakespeare to convey something about humanity. Try to determine Shakespeare's purpose for Ophelia, his reason for using her, for tormenting her, and for making her the first tragic victim in the greatest tragedy ever written.

Help please?
