Just wondering if there is any fictional what if scenario type books set in an alternate timeline where native american civilization developed without the europeans "discovering" America?
If so, are they any good?

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:

Woody Allen has made tons of movies as well as written books, plays and numerous articles. I heard a friend call him a modern-day Shakespeare, because Allen has written and directed so many great movies.

I don't even remember the plot! I know it was a picture book. I believe it was a portly man who was eaten up. There is a clear image in my mind of the couch - at an angle - with just eyeglasses and possibly a cravat or tie on the cushions - which was all that was left of him.
I would have read it in the late 70's/early 80's, but my husband remembers the same thing, which could put it back in the 60's, or earlier still.
Nothing like a sinister children's book to remember after all these years...the drawings perhaps had lurid overtones, but I am not sure.
Thanks to anyone who might know!
