Dont waste time writing a book - first go to some creative writing lessons and get some competence in writing articles etc. Then make your plan for the book. Every character has a story arc within the whole story arc. Coincidences are a no-no. Show the story dont tell it, ie never describe how someone felt, only what they did whilst they were feeling it. Write from the heart, write about what you know. The passion you feel is all you can portray, so dont think about who is going to read your explicit ideas...just be honest and open and write it all down. Writing is easy, the editing is v v hard. You might, like me write a book that took two years and broke up my family, and then find theres no agent that will take it on... so prepare for hard work, disappointment and with luck, great joy and success!! Good luck to you!!

Nktorpado is right; the answer to your question has been posted numerous times, but I'll provide my answer once more.
Obtain a Writer's Market book from either your library or bookstore. Search for the right literary agent that suits the genre of your novel and follow all the submission guidelines, including the agent's website.
Purchase "Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript" by Cynthia Laufenberg and learn how to prepare a strong query letter and to format your manuscript.
But before you do all this, buy the small pocketbook titled, "The Elements of Style" by Strunk and White. The manner in which you expressed your question is indicative that you need to learn to write proficiently without glaring errors.

i've been trying to get a book published for the last 9 months. the problem is that you have to go to a literary agent first, but literary agents can't actually be bothered with new authors. the problem is, you can't approach a publishing house directly becuse they don't accept unrepresented work. i read a jack higgins interview, and he said that it's down to luck who's reading your manuscript, and after 9 months i believe that's true. i also rad that, agents don't know what they're looking for, regarding originality, so how are we, the authors, supposed to know! Go figure!

You will need to loacte a literary agent, or you can approach publishing houses direct, lots of both on the search engines. Most will want a synopsis of the book and the first draft chapter, but you really need to get as much of it written as you can first...

its not easy and really depends on the type of book and your target market.
If it's a children's book there are a number of good publishing houses in the UK. But I would recommend visiting them in person, be as pushy as you can without been rude.
Trying to make contact my mail and post often ends in failure, because they get swamped on a daily bases by draft copies by hopeful authors. If you visit them personally you can make sure you draft at least gets looked at.

a sturdy ingredient to do may be to first factor out the positives, and then tell her that it would desire to be sturdy for her to have it edited somewhat greater. recommend that it rather is sturdy to get a independent third social gathering via fact once you spend plenty time on some thing it rather is going to become rather common to pass over some typos or different blunders (if all and sundry's stayed up all night rushing to end an essay for college they have experienced this). supply her some examples, or recommend that she study the tale out loud to herself (a sturdy thank you to self-edit). i assume the substantial right here is to enhance the positives at the same time as making particular she is often used with that it is not suited. interior the tip, if she's nevertheless upset approximately your criticism then it rather is a few thing she'll could artwork out on her very own.

I've been writing 25 years, and still don't know. Ask someone else. There's a lot of luck and even more hard work involved.
