Woody Allen has made tons of movies as well as written books, plays and numerous articles. I heard a friend call him a modern-day Shakespeare, because Allen has written and directed so many great movies.

If he is, I would've called Shakespeare neurotic....writing a lot of plays, books and numerous articles does not necesarrily mean that a person becomes "a modern-day Shakespeare". It isn't like the level system in Yahoo! Answers, where the more Q's you answer, the higher you go. A lot of the most famous writers in the world have been remember for that one piece of literature that was unique and changed our perception of the world, I would be at a loss to see which piece of literature from Woody Allen challenged our views of the world. What you heard is just a fan gushing praise for what might be his favorite actor.

Hell, no! No more than Burt Bacharach is a modern day Mozart. Woody Allen's work is amusing and inciteful but do you REALLY believe that 450 years from now his scripts will still be performed prolifically on stages all over the world? Do you believe that he will be quoted by the average guy on the street in 2450? Ludicrous!

Woody Allen will never compare to Shakespeare. Ever.

No -

(a) because there's too much Woody Allen himself in everything he does.

(b) he seems to think mere comedy is beneath him - witness all the bloody miserable films he does and

(c) he's getting worse not better as time goes on.

Perhaps...he does have the same penchant for young women that Shakespeare had.

Why not. Good variety, the language is rich. I worry he may be too era specific.
