I like well-written mysteries, fantasy if it's not just plain dumb. (harry potter: the perfect combination of the two) I like the books that you read again and still enjoy. Preferably a series, i'm trying to kill time until HP7 comes out (can't wait!!!!!)

Other characters seemed to behave in ways contrary to the previous books in the series, too. There has been speculation, in my circle of Potter fans, that nothing in that book was as it seemed. One theory is that Snape, who actually killed Dumbledore, had taken a polyjuice potion to look like the Headmaster, and Dumbledore took one to look like Snape, all in an effort to throw off Lord Voldemort and his followers.

Anyone else out there find this book to be enigmatic to the rest of the Potter books?

I'm looking for the title of a book I read years ago. It was about a Catholic boy and a Jewish girl who fell in love. The book follows them throught the years, and he eventually becomes pope and discovers that he has a child by her. Anyone know the title? By the way, it was NOT The Thorn Birds.

I have read the novel of human bondage and it seems to mee the novel is bigoted against the lower-classes. The main character is a very educated medical student in London with a club foot. He meets a cockney waitress who is extremely mean and rude and treats him very badly. Does anyone else think this book portrays the lower-classes in a bigoted way?

I have wondered about this ever since I read "Call of the wild". If there was such a man where was the home that Jack London describes? I remember that valley as a farming valley not as Silicon valley of today. I was born in 1950 and I remember orchards with grand houses. One place in particular was about 2 miles from the University of Santa Clara close to El Camino Real. My mother told me it was the home of a old judge.

Here is the question as my teacher stated it:
Turn to your own life and cite at least five examples from todays culture that contribute to your own assumptions about humanity's moral character. (Hint: Start with what you, yourself, thinks about humanity's moral character; then look at out media, our instatutions, and other personal sources which you think have helped shape the assumptions you have.

I have 4 done and all I need is one more! Please help!

I'm trying to find a story that I read several years ago and I can't remember the title or author. It's a short story, maybe 30 or so pages long - not a novel. It's for young adults - maybe a 4th or 5th grade reading level. My memory of it is very fuzzy... it's about a boy who lives with his parents in a house in the woods. At night, they hear a noise outside. Then I think they see big empty boots on the front doorstep? This happens three times. I think maybe the kid puts on the boots, and the boots take him somewhere. And maybe there's a giant in the story? But I could be confusing two stories. Do these details ring any bells? I remember that the story is narrated by the boy, looking back at the memory as an adult. Sorry that my recollection is so vague...

Is Snape really a bad guy? It would appear so, but there's also plenty of evidence that he's just deep cover. What do you think, and why?

Should there be more than one..go for it..i don't care how many just gives me a reading list..lol.

Ok...lets see the Hobbit, LOTR Trillogy, The Silmarillion, by Tolkien...love the world he created and can get lost in it.

Anything by Dennis L. McKiernan...haven't read any of the new stuff..but i like his stuff for the same reason as i like Tolkien's work.

Those are the two main authors i like, it would take awhile to name every book/author. I like Bradbury, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Salvatore. Before you think i just like sci-fi/fantasy...I also like Shakespeare, Alexander Dumas, and others. I just happen to enjoy the escapism of sci-fi/fantasy.
