I read Rumble Fish and loved it I read all of S.E. Hinton`s books and some of Richard Price`s and I definately dug Rumble Fish and Tex and I was wondering could you give m suggestions to books equivalent of those or a author that writes books just like those? Also is Drugstore Cowboy like S.E. Hinton`s books?

For another author of coming of age books popuklar at a bout the same time try Paul Zindel, personal favourites for me were "My Darling, My Hamburger" and "I Never Loved Your Mind".

For something grittier along the same lines try "The Chocolate War" by Robert Cormier.

Drugstore Cowboy has a similar pace and setting to SE Hinton's books but is definitely aimed at a much older age bracket.

My son (13) just read a book that he REALLY liked, and he liked all SE Hinton books too.

'Al Capone Does My Shirts' by Gennifer Choldenko

There are several S. E. Hinton books and several that she wrote with other authors
Hawks harbor
Rumble fish
Tex
That was then, This is Now
The Outsiders
The Puppy Sister
Taming the Star Runner
Big David, Little David

Drugstore Cowboy is kind-of like S.E. Hinton only inasmuch as it has Matt Dillon in it. The rest is all vintage Gus Van Sant. If you like the whole S.E. Hinton-thing and want more, you're probably well into a whole "not-a-boy/not-yet-a-man; chip on my shoulder; wanna be my own man" kind-of phase. You definitely would like some of what TOBIAS WOLFE has written. You probably would like some of what CORMAC MCCARTHY has written. If you're not afraid of getting edgey and weird, you maaaaay like some of what CHUCK PALAHNIUK has written. And if you're in the mood for what happens to people who live like S.E. Hinton's boys and live to tell the tale in their later years, you'll like much of what RAYMOND CARVER has written. I hope you enjoy something from some of these authors.
