Crazy Horse (1877)

"We had buffalo for food, and their hides for clothing and for our teepees. We preferred hunting to a life of idleness on the reservation, where we were driven against our will. At times we did not get enough to eat, and we were not allowed to leave the reservation to hunt.

We preferred our own way of living. We were no expense to the government. All we wanted was peace and to be left alone. Soldiers were sent out in the winter, who destroyed our villages.

Then "Long Hair" came in the same way. They say we massacred him, but he would have done the same thing to us had we not defended ourselves and fought to the last. Our first impulse was to escape with our squaws and papooses, but we were so hemmed in that we had to fight"

Are you the ultimate judge of what is good and evil or do you believe there is an outside set of standards that you base your views on?
What is supreme good, and supreme evil within yourself?

Surely the belief in an objective truth requires the same blind faith as it does to believe in God?

Scientific theories change all the time and often drastically: e.g. Thinking the world was flat, or that the Earth was at the centre of the solar system. At the time these were solid facts and wern't generally questioned. How do we know what we believe now is true? and how do we know that there is even an objective truth?

The following passage is about the palace of Irkalla(the epic of gilgamesh.) Enkidu tells Gilgamesh about the dream he has...where he sees himself entering a palace of the dead ( a large underground region below the earth. I just don't really understand the passage below. Can you tell me what role the dead play in the palace of Irkalla? Help, I am really weak in English.

‘ He turned his state towards me, and he led me away to the palace of Irkalla, the Queen of darkness, to the house from which none who enters ever returns, down the road from which there is no coming back.'There is the house whose people sit in darkness; dust is their food and clay their meat. They are clothed like birds " with wings for covering, they see no light, they sit in darkness. I entered the house of dust and I saw the kings of the earth, their crowns put away for ever; rulers and princes, all those who once wore kingly crowns and ruled the world in the days of old. They who had stood in the place of the gods like Ann and Enlil stood now like servants to fetch baked meats in the house of dust, to carry cooked meat and cold water from the water-skin. In the house of dust which I entered were high priests and acolytes, priests of the incantation and of ecstasy; there were servers of the temple, and there was Etana, that king of Dish whom the eagle carried to heaven in the days of old. I saw also Samuqan, god of cattle, and there was Ereshkigal the Queen of the Underworld; and Befit-Sheri squatted in front of her, she who is recorder of the gods and keeps the book of death. She held a tablet from which she read. She raised her head, she saw me and spoke:" Who has brought this one here?" Then I awoke like a man drained of blood who wanders alone in a waste of rashes; like one whom the bailiff has seized and his heart pounds with terror.'

So, based on the above passage about the palace of Irkalla, Can you tell me what role the dead play in the palace of Irkalla?

So that one day everything that could possibly be discovered is discovered, so that there was an infinite knowledge of the Universe including how it was created and its future.

(assuming we dont die, there was infinite time and money and cooperation etc etc)

Argument: A dog is not ethical because the dog only knows what gets rewarded with a treat and thus concludes to do the desired action.

Counterargument: According to an article in the earliest level of "moral" development the child defines right and wrong in terms of what authority figures say is right or wrong or in terms of what results in rewards and punishments. What makes this any different from what a dog does? Therefore a dog is moral according to this synopsis.
in other words what makes
"Sit"
"Fetch"
any different from
"Don't kill people"
"Don't steal things"

Our ethical systems may be more complex and higher evovled but the basic psychological principals are still there.
How are these any different?

Love's Philosophy

The fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the Ocean,
The winds of Heaven mix for ever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
in one spirit meet and mingle.
Why not I with thine?--

See the mountains kiss high Heaven
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:
What is all this sweet work worth
If thou kiss not me?
