What is the German name for Germany???


Please help im not sure what the answer is?

It depends on what year your immigrant ancestor arrived and what state they came from! Deutschland is the modern word, if they emigrated before the 20th century, they may have come from Prussia or Bavaria! I found in the censuses, the person answering the questions would often give the name of the country that was controlling the place where they had lived.

b- is correct
c- it can also include what is now Poland (depending on the year)

that's how it goes, here in genealogy. Lots of questions are 'yes-no-maybe"
