Please I don't want any religious based answers. I don't care for any religion based analysis.
Only scientifically based speculations or other opinions based on rational analysis and whatever little scientific information we do have about the topic.

Please people, I do understand your need to voice your opinions on this, but again I must stress, Id like the most scientific approach to it. I know there is not a lot to go with, but that IS exactly the point.
Please no holistic,esoteric,pseudo-religious or religious based answers. I do have a lot of friends from a lot of different cultures and many of them already know the answer to this, eg their going to heaven, they will be reunited with God, some of them will get eternal life, rivers of milk and gold, a couple of mansions, 40 porsches......, thats nice and all, but id like to have a more rational-humane-reality based answering session here.. THX all

Sorry this is not scientific but it is from my own personal experience.
Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.
Your brother don

To date I have seen ZERO evidence that life can be created spontaneously by orfrom the matter and energy of the physical universe.
I see evidence all the time that life can greatly affect the physical universe.
If the physical cannot create life, then it is likely that life created the physical.
If that is true, then the life force exists as something separate from the physical (and acts on the physical) so when the physical body dies, the life force must still exist.
What that force can or cannot do is another issue. since it is not part of the physical universe, it may be very difficult to detect and measure with physical instruments.
I'll not say there is anything it CAN'T do.

With the scientific method that requires repeatable proof, there is no evidence whatsoever.
Vague proof does exist. There was some experiment that showed people lose up to an ounce of weight the moment they die, suggesting that's when the spirit flies off.
There's the audio tapes of ghosts mentioned in the movie White Noise that is a real phenomena, but how do you run a test on that?
Ghost sightings don't mean much, as they could be a form of energy resonance rather than a conscious person.
Proof for me is the stories of kids remembering their previous lives. But, you can't make a standardized test without killing people heh.
There's a little scientific proof that we can leave our bodies and observe things accurately, but, no proof we can stay forever after dying.

The ancient Vedic wisdom is not a religion but teh science of everything the original "How to" books that came at the time of creation. they explain that
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more repeated birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. This process is Universal and nonsectarian. For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada I am glad I know where I am going in my next life.

I don't want to sound like I'm giving a religious answer here. You can judge for yourself, but I'll just put this out in case it's of interest.
Have you ever heard of 'Near-Death Experiences'? It's where people basically die, and then come back to life a few minutes later - with descriptions of things that they saw. An afterlife, or a delusion? It's your choice.

Ok,
I hope there is so I can see my family, friends, and pets that have passed away before so that I can be with them when I go to my maker. I am not a Christian but I hope that these are my last thoughts before I die . I would be at peace.

I would never rule out possibility. That would be ignorant and short-sighted of me. However, at present time, there has been no scientific evidence that I am aware of that supports this theory.
As with anything, I will not completely discount it. I will, however, not believe it until it is proved. :)

There is some probability for everything. There is a very tiny possibility that you might dissolve where you stand and resolve in China.
