God i am about to commit suicide here !

Starving Poet

Exhaust coughs it’s way out
nastily choking fans
and on lookers
as by passing supporters
wail on horns

My hands ache from the cold,
it starts snowing
people coming
people leaving
and there’s two dollars in my hat

The smell of java fills my nose
I continue spouting
words I wrote
some people looked confused
still change is being tossed

It’s almost midnight and I wonder
why these strangers are still here
some are sitting now
on the side walk
completely content

I’ll go back to the alley soon
and these strangers will
all go to a comfy home
my friends will have the barrel ready
to cook some meat tonight

Tomorrow is just another day
I think I’ll
get some coffee
and maybe there’ll be
enough change to go around...

Friggin' Chicken!

A solid kick
and feathers fly
"You friggin' chicken,
that was my eye!"
I feed and clean
your crappy cage
You come full force
with poultry rage
My hands are scared
'cause of your beak
You caught me down
you friggin’ sneak
I'd starve you but,
you'd only get thinner
And as of now, I’m
contemplating dinner
Chicken salad?
no, maybe fried.
Perhaps in chunks
along with fries
Oh now, I've got you,
be no doubt
This is your last
adventure out
Ouch, ya G*d
forsaking bird
Those friggin' claws,
they truly hurt
Ok, you've won
this round for now
But, tomorrow's menu,

Lowly One

Just one lowly
person
in a billion plus
crowd
Amazin' how they
impact
Someone who's feelin'
down
It could be by a
comment
It could be by a
smile
What ever minor thing it
is
Could make one's day
worthwhile
In such a dark and tainted
world
Someone is lucky to
find
Another lowly
person
With a heart as big and
kind
Next time you're out just look
around
For one who looks
"ho‑hum"
Smile and wave or even say
"hi"
And cheer up that
lowly one

Painted Daze

Day one,
I woke up
to a "green country" sky
Four shades of gray
overhead passing by
Rumbles of thunder
echoed through the air
While flashes of lightning
struck everywhere

Man, I'm outta my mind '
cause I'm outta my meds
Dreary days feed depression
and send you to bed
But, not today,
I can ride out the storms
Paint the sky a bright blue,
paint the winds a calm warm

Day two,
I woke up
to the sound of the rain
Black were the skies,
I can do it again
A rat‑a‑tat tapping
broke in from the hail
A patter‑pat‑pat
as the leaks hit my pail

And I am outta my meds
overcoming this dread
Bite my tongue or my lip,
hold it all in instead?
Paint my house a bright pink,
nah, that color stinks!
I think I'll paint it like
a zebra with a "flirty" wink
(Ya, I will)

Day three,
I woke up
with the sun shining in,
Blinding me straight up
from bed to begin,
Pulling down all the shades
on every window
Then little by little,
let the light in slow

You can't tell,
To me it doesn’t matter
if you're leaving here today
I told you,
You were about to shatter,
everything that was going great
But, you said "Oh,
I would never do you,
do you and break your heart"
Oh, somehow,
All along I had the feeling
you had lied from the very start
(chorus)
You can't tell me that you ever loved me
You can't tell me that you really cared
It surprises me,
just how long I could take it,
Your games being so unfair,
And you couldn’t tell,
that the love was no longer there
You can't tell,
To me it's so repulsive
you always being gone
I told you,
You need to spend some time
Cause you're not the only one
You said "Hey,
I'm not the only parent,
you had a part in this too"
What the hell, gave you any rights
to treat us the way that you do?

day after day life passes me by
I'm at a lost for words
I dont know what to do
she said things would get better
but they never did
now i'm failing out of school
I'm failing at life
I'm trying to stay cool
but i'm heading for the knife
I wish I could just start over
from when I was once smart
Want so bad for it to just be over
Just hit a vein
and end the pain
but everytime I go to cut
I just cant do it
Im outta luck
Its not that easy
when I wanna end my life
they all tell me not to do it

You can teach a person the rules of grammar and rhetoric but that is not what makes a great author's work come to life.

To what extent do you believe that great writing is a gift or is it taught, or perhaps self-taught, the way Van Gogh taught himself to paint what he saw.

Are the great writers gifted with the skill of word craft or do you believe they learned it by reading others?

Also to what extent do you think a persons life-experience plays in the quality of work or the style in which the work is presented?
