Painted Daze

Day one,
I woke up
to a "green country" sky
Four shades of gray
overhead passing by
Rumbles of thunder
echoed through the air
While flashes of lightning
struck everywhere

Man, I'm outta my mind '
cause I'm outta my meds
Dreary days feed depression
and send you to bed
But, not today,
I can ride out the storms
Paint the sky a bright blue,
paint the winds a calm warm

Day two,
I woke up
to the sound of the rain
Black were the skies,
I can do it again
A rat‑a‑tat tapping
broke in from the hail
A patter‑pat‑pat
as the leaks hit my pail

And I am outta my meds
overcoming this dread
Bite my tongue or my lip,
hold it all in instead?
Paint my house a bright pink,
nah, that color stinks!
I think I'll paint it like
a zebra with a "flirty" wink
(Ya, I will)

Day three,
I woke up
with the sun shining in,
Blinding me straight up
from bed to begin,
Pulling down all the shades
on every window
Then little by little,
let the light in slow

Ya, I'm outta my meds
but, refreshed in my head
No more taking a nap,
I'll make my bed instead
I'll paint on that blue sky
with a few birds passing by
And keep painting my days
from the inside.

At last, a sad poem without the EMOness.

In 11th grade in highschool the docs said I was suffering from depression...

I didn't let them put me on meds though. I recovered little by little using paints and paintbrushes and a clean white, new smelling canvas. Then the love of my life swept me off my feet and took me away from the dark place inside my head.

Your poem perfectly describes depression. Well done:)

Your outta your meds, but refreshed in the head. I'd say you have found a cure for depression. The cure for depression can usually be found in ourselves, instead of in a chemical concoction of drugs. Well done, and the poem is great too.

To a person who is out of his medication,
he has a wonderful imagination,
because of his depression;
he is using is expression.
Biting his tongue;
I could say honestly,
there may be an epileptic seizure.
I like the parts where the person kept a journal.
of how the sky looked from green to grey then
finally blue

i can relate..i take anti-depressant drugs..it does help..but it's not a cure..i stop just for a couple days and,..wow...there is no light on the other side of those shades..i have a lot of grey days and pitch dark nights..nobody cares to listen..like i said i'm not alone, but i am lonely..you forgot i element..people whom are depressed can stare into the light and still see only darkness...the alien guy...
