80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The point is to live the best life you can. Obviously, someone brought you into this world and is taking good enough care of you to have gotten you this far. Sometimes life seems hopeless, find a purpose. Whether it is helping a child learn to read, or spending time with lonely old people who have no one left in the world to care about them. Do something that will make you feel good about today. Commiting suicide will only hurt those around you that love you and is a very selfish thing to do. Have you talked to any of those people about your true feelings? Maybe they could get you some help. It could just be that you have a chemical imbalance and need some meds for a while to help. I think every person is on this earth to help others but, sometimes feel a little lost. Maybe you are supposed to make it through this now so you can help someone else find their way later. How will you ever know what your purpose in life is, if you end your life now?
I cared enough to answer, I hope it helps.

Here is yet another example of a person that is convinced that life will always be as it is now. That nothing will ever change and its not worth trying anymore. Sad to think that there are so many people that live life with their eyes closed.

You want to die, to end the pain or the sadness or whatever it is that you are feeling. I don't think that's what you want. I think you are just too afraid to fight back and that's a shame. Maybe you are afraid because you think you will fail and that will confirm what you already think of yourself? Well, let me tell you something. The only thing that will prove that you should kill yourself is if you actually do it.

I'm not gonna try to talk you out of anything. In fact, I think you might actually have a point. Killing yourself might just be the thing to do. Maybe we should all go out and just end it. What's the point right?
Hell, in the last 7 months I've lost my cars, my house, my job, my girlfriend and even my freedom for a short time. You might be on to something here. Maybe I should just kill myself and get it over with? After all, as bad as my life has been, I'm sure that what you have gone through is a million times worse and nothing will ever change to make it better, right?
So thats it. I'm gonna do it.
Thanks for the nudge buddy. Hope to see ya on the other side.

Point refers to purpose. What is the purpose of life?

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (a philosopher, mathematician, Nobel Laureate and atheist)

Our human experience shows us that unless there is a use (purpose) for things, they are worthless:

"There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. Deciding whether or not life is worth living is to answer the fundamental question in philosophy. All other questions follow from that." (Albert Camus - another philosopher, writer and atheist)

So, without God there is no purpose, no point, no worth and without worth, there is a great danger of suicide.

Don't pay any attention to Gee! Obviously, it is very easy for him to pull himself out of the depths of despair, which is great for him. But does he have any compassion or understanding of your state of mind? I don't think so.
