Although long entrenched as a question asked in popular culture as a pop-psychology yardstick for gauging the perception of the optimistic or pessimistic personality type this is actually an unanswerable question.

Consider this before you answer this question the next time someone asks it of you:

Any container, by its own definition, has to contain something or it could be a container and there is no emptiness in a container. The space in the glass not being occupied by water, or any other visible substance, is still being occupied by something. In most cases this is simply air.

Air: atmospheric gasses and particles made up primarily of N2, O2, Ar, Ne and He and any possible combinations of substances not directly associated with the definition of air. These include free-traveling germs seeking hosts, enumerable light particles and microscopic wave factors.

So, is your glass half empty, half full or always full?

I have read and studied a ton of writers on the subject of human consciousness. For example; Pinker, Eldeman, and many others that show how and why certain systems developed. However, those are not as comfortable when it comes to explaining the high quality functions that we are imbued with. They call it qualia and its stumps them. Love, Music, Feelings, Appreciation, Art, and so many more are not required for life to have sustained itself and continued its systems

Does it stump you?
Why do we have so much more than required for survival and evolution?

If it doesn't change the story or add something to it then why did Dumbledore's sexuality need to be addressed at all? Will Rowling be making announcements on all the other characters' sexual preferances?

I don't understand why she felt an announcement was needed...more publicity??

I like this one:

Freedom is always intoxicating. There's a world of activities you can partake in that you were never able to enjoy because your "other half" didn't approve. So indulge.

We were told to pick a topic without learning much about anything past the fall of Rome and the Barbarian invasions. I'm toying with "The Black Plague had the biggest impact of any empidemic". Good thesis or bad thesis? Also, what are some angles I can work on this besides loss of population affecting military size (and therefore the outcome of wars) and Justinian I consequently imposing laws stating a son must take up the career of his father to replace him in society? (Looking for medical/technological advancements and the like). Thanks!
