You have some wizard kids who have Muggle parents (like Hermione) and when they're asked if they want to live most of the year at a boarding Wizard school they all say yes. But wouldn't they miss things like their Muggle friends from their original schools? Or their favorite movies, TV shows, music, Muggle books, etc?

(Not a homework question, incidentally.)

I have an ancestor who was in his late 20s in 1861, lived in Alabama where his family owned 6 slaves (i.e. not Union sympathizers) though they weren't rich or politically connected, and from his photograph he appears to have been able-bodied. There is no evidence he served during the Civil War in the army or in the Home Guard. He married in 1862 and had 2 children born during the war, also indicating he was at home and not in the field. He was not an only child or the sole support of anybody at the beginning of the war.
No tales survive of him through his descendants; I only know his name through genealogical research.
Any idea how he would have avoided service? (I know that northern men could legally pay other men (usually $300-$500 and usually Irish immigrants) to take their place, but this doesn't seem to have been an option for Confederates.)

Thanks for any good suggestions.

Calling ladies...what is the most frequent and annoying misconception from which male authors suffer when they are writing female characters? (Also applies to screenwriters.)

Could God even though an imaginary being be tried in a court and could the law which enables people to be convicted and tried when not present be used those guilty of crimes but not tracked down yet. then after could it be written into law God has been imprisoned for however many years suitable No one and no deity is above the law even imaginary creatures have to obay it so can not send out orders to commit genocide acts of terror and if any such acts are they are against The Geneva Conventions and so whether imaginary or not should not God have been taken before a court and convicted long ago

Crashing!
Hitting!
Screaming!
Cursing!
That was last night
Yeah we had a big fight
She hit you Then you hit her
Then you hit me
It was us three
Last night
We had a big fight
She ran for the door
But you wanted to fight more
I tried to stop you
And you knew
That's why you turned around
And pushed me to the ground
Last night
Yeah we had a big fight
I screamed out side for help
And you cursed me out
But me and her we finally got out
Oh yeah last night
We had a good Fight

In the Chamber of Secrets, We learn more about the History of Hogwarts School. We learn that its about 1000 years old. We learn that Slytherin (one of the original 4) placed a giant serpent in the chamber of secrets. This of cause is about 1000 years ago. How come then the entrance to the chamber is through a toilet sink? Surely not even wizards and witches had mod-cons back then?

Ok, so he a professional dancer and I am fairly new to dance. We have great chemistry and move very well together. Monday will be the first time I dance with him in heels. I am already an inch or so taller than him. With him in heels I will still gain at least another inch. It is not a problem with our dancing, but we are worried about what judges will think. Do you think that our ability to move cohesively and with a good top line will be enough? We see this as a challenge so we are willing to do what it takes i.e. me losing weight to appear smaller and him gaining a little to appear larger, doing drills and training to dance more into my knees. We will be dancing mostly smooth, american and international, shows and comps. We are very serious about dancing together, I was just wondering what other dancers think about this kind of obstacle, would you just find another partner that was taller? Or stay with the one that you work best with? How much will it hurt our scores?
