Why were the Union's terms of surrender lenient toward the Confederacy?

Everybody was tired and worn out. Grant was an honorable man who had great respect for Lee. It also didn't hurt the South that Lincoln and Grant were very merciful and kind people. Lincoln looked at them as petulent children who would come home. He always said they would be welcome with open arms

Back then decent white people were leaders. Even though The Civil War was just another Jewish for profit war. Back then they were all brothers killing each other for nothing. Robert Lee just ask that each man could carry home a horse to prepare for planting. They did't get to keep their guns.

One reason was Lincoln's idea of reconciliation with the South since they were, afterall, brothers and fellow countrymen.
