Principle -- particularly moral principle -- can never be a weathervane, spinning around this way and that with the shifting winds of expediency. Moral principle is a compass forever fixed and forever true.

Now I don't want to sound insesitive here, but I'm attempting a WW2 story, & one of my character's is sent to war (he's eighteen, so I assume he's old enough, maybe older than the 'going' age?) & to put it bluntly, I'm going to kill him off, but the story focuses on my main character in the country-side rather than the trenches which is why the way I want them to find out he's dead is the usual way one would go about in WW2 to let family know a relative had died. What happened? Did they send a letter, & if so, what did it basically say? Or when they had 'breaks' did someone go round & tell them? Any other useful info on the war would be very appreciated, too.

I'm a fan of King's, but the books written in the past few years seem rather weak. Blaze was so-so, Lisey's Story was different, and I did not like Cell at all. I hope he finds his muse again, because right now he seems lost.

I felt too bad today and I opened the web search for "suicide." I couldn't feel better still after the search, so I made these 4 lines to express my feelings.

untitled

I’m not a human being, I’m a garbage, I’m a rat,
I’m a monkey or what, I am nothing to a god,
No matter how much I shout, the stones just laugh;
Kill me if you want, I don't care, I am bad.

She wasn't that attractive as portrayed by Elizabeth Taylor, it is believed she had a son and that there has been quite a few Cleopatra's.

Anytime someone on here asks a Canon/Nikon which is better question, there will almost always be some sort of rather hostile "Canon/Nikon has better lenses" etc.

One thing I've learned is that all of the major brands are pretty much the same, especially as far as lenses go.

In my testing, I've found that both brands make some absolutely stunning lenses which are better even than their German equivalents, and both brands have made some real dogs. Check out the 100 or 105 Macro lenses from both brands-you'd be hard pressed to find a better lens.

Yes, Canon makes L lenses. All the L designation means is that they have some sort of special lens element(fluorite, UD glass, aspherical) in order to correct some specific aberration.

Nikon has these too, they just don't have a "catch all" designation fo them like Canon does.

Some lenses don't need special glass-the 100mm macro lenses, for example, work great with classical lens designs.

How to preserve a history for 1000 years

I want to preserve lots of things for the next generation including pictures, family tree, and lots of things which are part of me for the next millennium. Not for 100 years but for the year 3000. How do I do that? Is there is any institution or agency who can help me to do this?

Sonnet to the Scapegoat

O man of stature and integrity,
A beacon in the fog of government,
Our only hope for truth and sanity,
Which your superiors oft circumvent,

'Twas at your captain's pleasure that you served,
Although he sailed our ship into a storm.
You stated, answered questions, and observed
Your former colleagues racing to inform.

And that which stretched your soul* is not the cause
Of your departure, or at least you claim.
Although it must have made you think and pause,
And made your point of view not quite the same.

We all shall miss you, Tony Snow, indeed.
And wish you all the best to come. Godspeed.

* "In many cases, a bout with sickness stretches your soul, opens your eyes, and introduces you to a world of unimagined grandeur, possibility and joy." - Tony Snow, May 6, 2005

Budding roses come and gone,
a callous world still carries on
vainly trying to look beyond
a pain that knows no soothing.
Little flowers hid from sight,
many colors dark and light are seized and swept into the night. Roses kept from blooming.

As self indulgence rules our land,
some children just don't fit the plan
and so we pluck them from God's hand.
Is our destruction looming?
Precious buds of God's design,
grand a gift of love divine
where earth and heaven intertwine,
yet their rose is kept from blooming.

May we learn to hold as dear
what God Himself has planted here.
And may we make the choice in fear,
lest we keep God's rose from blooming.

The joys this earth will never know,
little smiles that never glow,
lives left longing to unfold.
It's a tragedy we're choosing.
The sweetest gift that God could give,
He made to grow, to love, to live.
So help us Lord to let them live
for they're roses meant for blooming.
