Actually, she wasn't black, she was Macedonian. She was the last in a long line of rulers, starting with Ptolomy I that was purely Macedonian. She wasn't attractive because the ruling family at the time insisted on marrying their brothers and sisters. She was also the first in her family to actually assimilate to the Egyptian way of life, and was probably the first to actually speak the language. She definitely did have a son by Caesar, as well.

It is not 'believed' she had a son, it is known. She had a son by Julius Caesar named Caesarion. This is well documented, as is the fact that she wasn't a particularly attractive woman. This is borne out by her portrayal on her coins. So as a straight answer to your question, I'm not surprised.
