Square rigged ships which were granted a warrant which made them official troop transports NOT ships of the line which were front line fighting ships with little capacity for troops and none for horses.Smaller operations may have used navy ships to carry small numbers of troops to subsidise marine landing forces.Many ships were converted colliers and India-men.
