The old definition of a professional photographer was "A man with 7 cameras and a working wife."

Seriously, look for books on how and where to sell your photographs. Your local library probably has a couple and you can find many many more on the web. Study your rights as a photographer and learn what "Exclusive rights" and "One time use rights" are. Learn how to protect your work by copyrighting your work.

Once you've narrowed your choices down research the companies you plan to submit work to.

Know their needs as intimately as possible.

Submit only what they say they want when they want it. If its a card company wanting Christmas photos in April don't send "fun in the sun" photos.

Be prepared for rejection. If your feelings get hurt whenever someone expresses a dislike for one of your photos you might not be suited for this.

Good luck!
