Arts & Humanities - 25 February 2007

I'm single, no children and my life is empty and meaningless. I don't dislike my work or my free-time activities, but there just doesn't seem to be any reason for the things I do.

I don't like the idea of getting married or having a family to fill the void. That sounds like a very bad reason to me, but I can't get over the feeling that without someone else in my life, I'll eventually just stop caring altogether.

If it were possible and you could pick just one period in history, where and when would you visit? and why? ( you can only be an invisible bystander- no interfering with the past, i.e no telling Lincoln to give the theatre a miss....etc)
Me, i think it would have to be sometime during the american civil war, and witnessing one of the many great battles. It`s just a period that has always interested me.

Hello. I am a professional dancer, who is at my wits end trying to install my new dance pole. The apartment I rent from has vaulted ceilings with metal layered between the sheet rock and the joists. For whatever reason, my joist finder is giving me inaccurate readings. At first I thought it might be the popcorn ceiling that was affecting the joist finder. I am still unsure if this is affecting it as well. I really don't want to blindly drill holes in my ceiling anymore and I can't seem to find anyone who installs any sort of dance equipment in the phone book.

Every time I drill into the ceiling I hit metal. The metal bits can drill past it, but instead of finding a joist like the finder suggests, there is empty space.

Are there any repair men or women out there who can help me sort this out?

I am curious to know what tests were done to give her the break down and how do you go about having the test done yourself to find out what heritage you have ....
as I am in australia .... the best answer would have to be considerate of that ( ie no use telling me that some university in Ohio does the tests .. )
