My story is set in the early Victorian era.
There is a 19 year old girl named Anne. Since she was a child, she was teased often because of her mother, who was rather too spirited, too honest...just a woman far from being a conventional lady. ANyways, Anne's father hated Anne's mother, and Anne, though she loved her mother, was embarrassed of her.
Anne was born a spirited and romantic girl, but because of having witnessed people treating her mother inferiorly, Anne has suppressed her true character and hid behind a social mask. So, my question is, how would she act in public? Would she be shy, perhaps? Or cold and always composed? And how can I show in my story of how inconvenient it is to act like the lady you are not? And what can the problems me that she comes across due to her having suppressed her true character?

Be creative ;)

First off, I can't remember the authoress' name and I think it's called Sanctuary or Survival, I read it years ago.

The front cover is turquoise-blue and has a picture of a hand outstretched, in the motion of someone sinking underwater. I think there is also a boat exploding at the top of the water.

The book is about a girl who takes a boating vacation with her parents. Their boat catches fire, accidents on deck cause the deaths of her parents. She winds up shipwrecked on a remote island, inhabited only by birds and a strange large animal that lives in a cave. Two sailors (Mexican/Spanish, i think) are with her but they are badly injured. She makes the long hard trawl of survival. Poachers come to the island twice to steal the birds, the second time they try to rape her.She goes to the cave to hide and her hunter dirsturbs the large beast in there and it kills him. Later on she is rescued and she makes a bid to protect the island.

Quite a good read, help me find it!!!

....envy greed etc.

is rapacious capitalism one?

or is t.v rotting peoples morality?

what about the influence of seedy squalid newspapers?

are we giving our kids the wrong type of education?

what about scandal/gossip mags that make people compare themselves unfavourably with what the rich and famous have got.

is advertising becoming more pernicious, and making us feel like we never have enough of the good things in life.

are banks fanning the corruption with their easy lending rules, turning youngsters into me me me..now now now impatient selfish people?

something has obviously been having a corrosive effect down the decades to make recent generations less considerate...surely it is not beyond our brightest minds to discover exactly what.

if it is a combination of the above...ie many causes...what can we do to reverse the trend?

Also how many people during feudal times in Europe actually went to church?

how was the scriptures in the Catholic Church different (more books, less books?) than the published version in the 1600's?

ive just read skimmed through the 1001 books to read before you die...and its amazing how many of the modern recommended books are about scuzzy inner city lives, or drug addiction or madness or depravity loneliness mental decay etc etc.

arent there any positive uplifting books out there?

What would you consider to be just plain "wrong"..something that you will NEVER agree to, or with?

This is an only your opinion type of question..there are no right or wrong answers here....just based on how YOU as a person really honestly feel inside and out!!

OK, so whatever I "mix my labour with" is my property, but what, in Locke's terms, happens to my parents' property when they die? I didn't mix my labour with their property, so what right have I to inherit it?

If I do inherit, doesn't that reveal an entrepreneurial streak in the normally conservative Locke?
