Because we are a species are so introspective as to be somewhat peturbed at the idea of our own existence both ending and meaning nothing in the ultimate long-run of things. If we're always here, we'll always matter.

The same can be said for people who want to "do something that'll be remembered". It's the individual urge to leave future generations evidence that you were here.

I think it's because we're afraid that we die and will have missed out on the one opportunity to do something great. If we live forever, there will be lots of chances, we can procrastinate a little.

Because if you knew you were going to live forever, the consequnces of your actions could never be death, meaning you could take more risks and lead a much more exciting and adventurous life.

I think it is because we are lead to believe that the life everlasting will be wonderful, full of love, no diseases, pain, paradise etc and therefore an end to a useless life on earth

Simply? In the "other life" he would have the fantasy of knowing all the answers. Life would not be complex, complicated or full of trials that teach us how to "know" what to do.

because living forever would remove the need to do anything. unending life would be a point on its own, there would be no need to fill it with anything in particular.
