Given that furniture these days all seems to be made from veneered particle board or mdf; no mortise and tenon or dovetail joints - just plastic fixings, which loosen and fall to bits if you move it too much. (Ikea - please take note.)

In fact, nothing that makes for a lasting piece of furniture that will improve with age, care and polishing.

Mine is from Cannery Row by John Steinbeck:

Cannery Row in Monterey in California is a poem, a stink, a grating noise, a quality of light, a tone, a habit, a nostalgia, a dream. Cannery Row is the gathered and scattered, tin and iron and rust and splintered wood, chipped pavement and weedy lots and junk heaps, sardine canneries of corrugated iron, honky tonks, restaurants and whore houses, and little crowded groceries, and laboratories and flophouses.

Can you beat that?

I don't really know anything about poetry so I'd like to get some opinions from more experienced/ educated folks....

Your black is so beautiful, trimmed in that gold

Your life so short, your story should be told

Elegance of motion, as you take to flight

Dignified and regal is what you bring to light

Places your ancestor's once called home, meadows and fields

soon shall be gone

Your kingdom is now made of concrete and stone

Serenity I yearn to see you so close, to fly by your side is

what I wish the most.

Looking for good quality, genuinely erotic books, fiction of non-fiction for Xmas present. There's so much tack around, which is about as erotic as a Haynes Manual crossed with Mills&Boon.
We really enjoyed Story of O, so that should give an idea as to our tastes. We enjoy BDSM and the wilder side of love, but I'm reluctant to buy "blind" online as there'ssome real junk out there!
Very happy to have our eyes further opened, and to gain new ideas, so anything welcomed. Also interested in the "reference" side of things!

"Just as a female spirit casts a spell on an exorcist, so these sense-objects come in the guise of supernatural powers, and sway a person's mind through contact with the senses"

How much relevance such a comparison has ? or are there any more comparisons for the might of senses ?

This is my first ever callback for a play. The play is The Diary of Anne Frank. I've auditioned for several plays before, and this is the first time I've gotten a callback. Seasoned actors...any ideas or advice? What should I expect? What can I do to prepare and what should I wear? Someone said I shouldn't wear any make-up...not sure, though...
