This is my first ever callback for a play. The play is The Diary of Anne Frank. I've auditioned for several plays before, and this is the first time I've gotten a callback. Seasoned actors...any ideas or advice? What should I expect? What can I do to prepare and what should I wear? Someone said I shouldn't wear any make-up...not sure, though...

One main tip that I was never told until later is to wear the same outfit to callbacks that you wore to auditions. The director(s) will recognize you better if you do, and makes it easier for them to remember you. ("Oh yeah, that was the girl with the red sweater - She was really good at this part.")
Wearing make-up is fine, by the way. I've never heard of not wearing make-up...

And if they haven't told you what to expect, then that's basically what you do: expect the unexpected.

I've done numerous callbacks and usually they have you read more material, and possibly with other people. Sometimes they give you time to read over the material before doing it in front of them, but sometimes not. This is definitely an experience where you need to stay on your toes.

Make sure you are well-rested and well-fed (but not within an hour of call-backs) and up for anything.

It's kind of like doing an interview: You've given them an application and they liked it, now you go in and show them what you're made of and why they should have you on the team (or on the cast).

Break a leg!

Wear the same outfit to a callback as you did to the audition. If the "girl in the yellow dress" is now wearing a purple sweater, they might not remember her. I would wear some makeup, to enhance features, but not too much that you look fake. DO NOT. I REPEAT: DO NOT come dressed as the character you are being called back for. EVER.

CASTING
If you are expecting a phone call from the directors to find out your role in the show, DO NOT answer on the first ring. This will give the impression that you are waiting for the call, which shows unprofessionalism. Answer after the second ring, and halfway through the third. DO NOT scream or say "I GOT IT!" while on the phone. Thank the directors. While on the phone, smile. This will be conveyed through your voice.

Don't answer the phone on the first ring and never let them see you sweat. But, hey! Don't look TOO made up for "Anne Frank", unless it is to enhance a sallow appearance. Look like / act like / show up in character - like you already own the part. Some parts are given, some parts are taken. Be a taker.
And break the other leg.
