SO NOW YOU KNOW THAT GOD IS THE GREATEST LIE EVER TOLD TO US!!!!!!! Gee, you should be ashamed of yourself to be the last one to get to know this real truth. What were you doing???
Everybody in the world knows it. The mighty Communist super-power, The USSR (The Soviet Union) said it ever since it began from 1917. You can learn a lot about life from
www.marxist.org. Learn about Communism and the USSR and then you shall know the power of the Human being.
Oh, and before you do that, don't forget to throw your garbage on your nearest church/mosque/temple. That will give you the power.

This is an interesting question because every civilization that has ever existed has come up with some reason or explanation for their existance that went beyond them (creation myths, gods, etc.). So essentially the question is this: did God create man, or did man create God? This is a question that will never be answered, because if God exists, we will never find out because religion requires faith. If God could be proven to be real, faith would turn into knowledge and religion as we know it would cease to exist. If God does not exist, there is no way of proving it.

I digress...you asked our opinion. Personally, I would say that no, God is not the greatest lie ever told. First off, who is telling the lie? The churches? Would they be doing this deliberately or unknowingly? Was there a conspiracy to tell the masses about God? Why?

It is possible that humans "created" God as a way to explain why we are here. Even if this happened, doesn't God essentially exist and serve the same purpose that he would otherwise? In other words, whether God exists or not, billions of people around the world believe he does--so at least to those people he exists and guides their lives and belief systems. Here's a bad analogy: Santa Claus doesn't exist (sorry if this is ruining it for some of you), but he essentially does exist to kids everywhere and serves the same purpose that he would otherwise--as one who spreads holiday cheer and motivates kids to be nice and not naughty.

Finally, we too often look for simple solutions to complex questions and problems. We assume that there is only one right answer, only one truth. In reality, it is possible for many different truths to coexist.

Even if humans created him (or Him...or her...or Her)--we'll never know--God is not the greatest lie ever told.

A lie is a statement. God may be many things (whether or not God exists), but God is not a statement. Therefore God can't be a lie. But maybe you're wondering whether the statement, "God exists" is a lie (the greatest ever told, even). A lie is not just any statement, of course, it's one that's untrue and told with the intention of its being accepted as true. So to answer this question we'd have to establish whether the statement "God exists" is true or false - tough to do, I think. Then, supposing that we can be sure it's a false statement, we have to determine who said it and whether or not that person knew the statement was untrue and told it as if it were the truth anyway. That seems even tougher to do than settling the question of whether or not God exists.

Quite a task you've set for yourself. Let me know how the search goes.

Suppose an omnipotent figure who dictates truth does exist, the answer is of course, no.

Suppose there is no omnipotent figure who dictates what truth is. Everyone's opinion is as valid as any other's Then perception becomes truth and whether God exists becomes an opinion. And as we all know, opinions can be agreed or disagreed with. Either way, it's not a lie.

For example: if I say "Apples are the most delicious food in the world." You can choose to agree or disagree. But you can't call it a lie.

So it's a Catch 22, the answer to the question is no.

No. I think Roswell 1947 is. God has never been classed in human form. As Gabriel Byrne (played the Devil in End Of Days) says "He had the greatest press agent alive. Something good happens, it's His way. Something bad happens, Well, he moves in mysterious ways."

Which God? The one true God of Christianity? For what purpose would a false god serve? In that regard, No.

Are you talking about THE God, or about a god of fire, or some other idol. Pagan gods are a lie, in the sense that you refer to. Unfortunately, for people like you, THE God is real.
