I suspect Reconstruction would have been reconstruction rather than the continued low-intensity warfare that it more closely resembled. In that case there might have been no perceived need to have the KKK, for instance, race relations would have been considerably better, and the economy of the southern states, still remarkably poor fifty years later, would have recovered and reoriented much, much faster.

I don't think he was the greatest, but he sure had a lot of problems to work with. If he would have lived out his term he would have had to rebuild the South and make efforts to get the Country back on its feet.
