It would probably be a British Commonwealth nation like Canada to its north.

I think more fragmented. For a start, would Napoleon have agreed to the Louisiana Purchase in favour of a colony of Great Britain when France and GB were at war? Would westward expansion have resulted in land being claimed for the Empire or would those lands have been independent states? Would other European countries tried to grab unsettled parts - particularly in the west, to stop British expansion that way? Someone asks if the Civil War would have taken place - no, must be the answer, since slavery would have been abolished in the 1830s as it was across the rest of the Empire. Would Canada and the southern parts of this British N American empire obtained independence as one country? Then, what would have been the effect on the rest of the Empire. Could Great Britain have coped both with north America and with India, for example? A book could be written about this subject!

Hypothetically!
I am pro America, but choose to reply to a good question.
America might have developed as a copy of the British Union Producing, New England, New Ireland, New Scotland, And New Wales.
Without the war of Independence, the New Americans and the British of the day for King George, hungry for battle and acquisition as they were, might have completed the set and taken a lot of South America.
I feel that had this happened, the average American would have had a better rapour with Britain and their idea of size and importance would have been more realistic in all aspects.
Their concept and knowledge of the rest of the world would have been infinitely better.

It probably would have eventually gained its independence through devolution-empires tend to decay from the inside out.
However, I agree with the guy above about it becoming a commonwealth country like Canada.
Which is interesting, because would there then have been a civil war? And also, America could then have entered the First or Second World Wars at their beginning, rather than half way through. In fact, the very threat of Americas enormous resources backing the British empire may have prevented those wars altogether.

I think it would be very different, the French would still probably control Louisiana and California would have been part of Mexico. You would also need to consider India in this one. Britain only decided to concentrate on India after the American Revolution, and could possibly have become part of either the German, French or even Russian empires, making them far stronger than they are now. If Russia had of taken over India, it is possible to suggest the 1917 revolution may not have taken place, and theoretically could have been a far stronger force much earlier.

It would be like Australia or New Zealand! Part of the Commonwealth, having to recognise the Queen as the head of the state, being more alienated from the rest of the world (except England) like these countries are, etc etc.

I guess the Americans would have to be drinking more tea, speaking with a more lame accent and having a more gay-like culture altogether!!! Ha ha !!!

Well, America would have got it sooner or later...
But considering the way the UK abused peoples all over the world as the dominant power, it would have colonised the Americas and still be the world superpower; would have grabbed most of the world's oil 50 years ago, with many independence movements all over the world resenting living under the British yoke.

It would have been a land of slaves focibly brought in from the rest of the world (read other parts of the Empire). It would be primarily an agricultural country & at war with the rest of the America's.

Hello,

Thats an extremely difficult question to answer but my fantasy is that all the white settlers would have wiped out by the Native American Indians (the reverse of actual history i.e. the war of independance) and that the native americans would have retained there great cultures & tribes & many languages. They would have become a world power but not in the way the USA is today.
